River Mews is located in a woody area off Warwick Blvd which keeps the traffic noise down. Some problem with loud music from cars but that is typical for most areas of Newport News. Staff is helpful and repairs done promptly. Air conditioning went out one hot day, I expected to have to wait a week or so to have repaired, working again in one day. Grounds are clean, I see their staff out their daily picking up trash residents just throw on the ground. Some problems with dumpster and trash being stacked in front of it. I have seen many residents just leave trash in front or not follow instructions on loading. Could be closer but some exercise is good for you. Clean laundry room nearby, along with a playground (could have a few more things for kids to play on)add a very nice pool. Haven't seen the clubhouse inside yet, looks nice from the outside. My apartment is small but well laid out. Appliances are older, some rust on refrigerator, but not bad. Outside work and upgrades are ongoing, they do seem to be working to keep the building nice looking and in good shape. I checked out other apartment complexes and River Mews are priced right, good location and other positive benefits. While Newport News is not the safest place to live, police satistics show that this area is a low crime area. This is a good place to live, would recommend to others.

I have lived here for a while and there are shootings at least twice a year, cars getting broken into or just vandelized. the apartments next door to River Mews are the trouble ones but they are right next door. A couple of guys where shot on the other side of the fence last fall and a guy was found shot in the head in the woods behind the dumpster last June. Safe... what a joke. Buy a house now while it is a buyers market and stay away from this place. I have had huge increases over the years in addition to being forced to pay a water bill that is not your usage but is the whole complex usage divided up by how many people are on the lease. The maintenence guys a good guys just trying to do there job but when I have put maintenece requests in and it could take days and sometimes they lost the requests. I do not know if it was office individuals screwwing up or what. Some of the office people are very fake, rude and very un-helpful. The garbage situation sucks. Everyone has to drive there garbage from one end of the complex to the other to throw it away. If one person does not follow the directions then you have this huge pile of trash in front of the compactor and you have to throw your garbage on there with the possibility that you will get in trouble or the fact that someone is going to have to pick it all up. Postitive side is the the appartments are a very good size. A nice appartment that I used to have friends in that I would recomend if you like a big appartment for a resonable price is Turnberry Wells. It has been a while since I have been there so you may still need to do your homework on that one too. I am not being negative just honest. Maybe someone else has had a better expierience then me or maybe the management will rebutle my statement and pretend to be anonymous. Either way River Mews needs work to make it safer and more convienent for all its renters. The renters are the customers and they are number one.
