We looked at a 3 bedroom in November of 2005 and it was in great condition. Got all utilities transferred. Were scheduled to move in December 2005 but 2 days before movein they stated that unit was not ready and we would have to move into downstairs unit or wait 2 weeks more. So we said we would move into the downstairs unit. Had to scramble to get utilities changed. That was no fun.
So the day of our movein we expected the downstairs apartment to be just like the upstairs that we originally saw. NO NO NO
the sliding door is broken and is not usable. No washer and dryer missing for 2 weeks. They said a new set was on order. Electrical outlets broken and one touching the carpet. Hvac unit has old filter and all closet doors either not working or missing knobs. When I say not working I mean really they cannot be used or they will fall on you!!!!NO NO NO do not move here.
They never would come out to repair these things. The manager does not care. She told my wife that she has 260 other units to deal with than worry about our small problems.
So I decided to contact the Fair Housing Authority. I recommend this because things will get done. Oh yea maintenance came 2 days later and repaired almost every small problem we had and are expected to be here next week to fix our bedroom door that is broken(requires 2 hands to close and when it does close there is a 1/2inch gap all around the door and I don't mean the bottom I mean the sides, the door is not the correct size, that way the kids can peek on us when my wife and I are sleeping.
Any way hopefully things will be all corrected soon. Still can't use sliding door because the manager said it had to come from California. And son's bedroom window is missing the actual window. Only has storm glass and the manager said that she could not have that fixed. Well codes will be here next week and I will let them decide. No No No do not be trapped by Woodscape. You have legal options in VA. Fair Housing Authority, Codes and Compliance and Go to the Circuit Court and tell them you need the paperwork for a TENANT'S ASSERTION. If you have problems with your apartment that management won't fix, then a Judge in the city of Newport News will look at your complaints and will decide if you should continue to pay rent or put it in an escrow account. That way Woodscape cannot touch the money until all your complaints are corrected and the manager will have to appear before that judge and answer why it had to go this far.I rate this complex as poor to fair. I rate the management as poor.

What you wrote is incredible. I too have been having problems with my unit and CANNOT get the staff at woodscape to lift a finger. I am going to check into the tenents assertion. Thank you for the advice!!! |
