My apartment was broken into a month ago! The deadbolt was on, but the door was smashed to pieces anyways! My neighbors were home and no one did anything, even though they said that the force "shook the entire building." The door was splintered to pieces, the hinges ripped off, the door frame torn apart, the locks were pryed and bent. The burgulary (thousands of dollars worth of personal property) wasn't even the worst part! No one even called the police! My door was wide open when I returned. It has been a month and the management has used every excuse to justify why my door has not been replaced (!)... they would not even terminate my lease. So, no I am paying for an apartment that I can not and will not stay in, because "legally the door is secure." Meaning, all of the broken pieces were screwed back together and the broken locks were hammered back into their original shape, so you need a key to "unlock" the door. I would never recommend this place. The walls are paper thin, and watch out if you live on the bottom floor! My neighbors would engage in the most mortifying sex acts imaginable for hours, during the day, middle of the night, it didn't matter!-- I was fortunate enough to hear every moment of it! Be prepared to insulate your walls/floors/ceilings, purchase whatever alarm systems available and still fall asleep each night to orgasmic shrieking of the strangers who lives above you.

I used to live there, so I know exactly what you mean about the paper-thin walls. Sheesh. It was the worst. Sorry to hear about your break-ins as well, I can only imagine how much more uncomfortable you were after something as traumatic as that.
