A great deal

While not perfect, the Hague Towers is still a great option. I lived there for 2 years in a huge 18th-floor 2-bedroom/2 bath with a roommate.

PROS: Off-street parking is rare in Norfolk, all utilities are included in rent which is also unheard-of, and the kitchen was really nice with gas stove, dishwasher, and disposal. I lived on the Elizabeth River side which had stunning views, and we had a huge balcony overlooking the river and Downtown. There is a ton of natural light in every room. Also small workout room and pool on the roof, plus sundeck. I met a lot of EVMS students living there and everyone was extremely friendly. My work orders were always taken care of the same or next day. We never heard our neighbors--it was very soundproof.

CONS: If you live on the Elizabeth River side, there is a lot of street noise and sirens. The Hague side is much quieter. They frequently had to turn the water off for the whole building at random times--twice they cut it off while my roomate was taking a shower. Also, by the time I moved out in October 2005, the parking lot was full by 9 p.m. many times--I'm not sure why. Portions of the lot flood when the Hague Inlet floods (which is often) so you have to watch where you park. Finally, I had a silverfish issue. They had our apartment exterminated several times and I think it might be the fault of another renter above or below who were not exterminating because the problem never went away. But I had other friends in the bulding who never saw a silverfish so hopefully this was isolated.

Overall, I had a great experience at the Hague and really enjoyed the people, environment, value, and location. It is right between Downtown and Ghent so you get the best of both worlds. I'd recommend it.
