The reviews are nice until someone lives here for a while. The rent has gone up 9% this year ($50 to 65 for one bedrooms)and the office said it going up 9% next year! These are old apartments! Putting in sliding doors doesn't make up for the age and the very old and very small bathrooms and very old kitchens. The managemer and accountant don't like each other which makes for a bad atmosphere. You do not control when you turn heat or air-conditioning on each year. The desk people are older and not people friendly on the most part. For the rudeness and ill-kept building you could buy one of the newer places in the area. The utilities in the newer places are less than $50.00 a month-that more than makes up for the rent raises her at the Hague Towers. We now have approximately 15 apartments not rented due to people moving out with 9% rent increase this year.

I would agree with the rent raise...I live in a studio and am fed up with how expensive it is for what we get! The only real reason I stay is because I'm trying to get into grad school and it's pointless for me to move until I find out where I'll be going to school. The sliding doors are nice, but no way to hang up curtains/blinds was provided and you can't drill into the sides OR the ceiling. Also, the utilities aren't all that great...the water sometimes will either be off completely or just cold water will come out, with no warning whatsoever. I have complained that we should be notified (b/c of all the times I've gone to take a shower and can't) ahead of time, but nothing has changed. I realllllly can't wait to move out!!!

I don't know who wrote this but I would say that it is fairly straight forward. 9% rent raise! Unbelieveable! But true! I agree that the office are control freaks. Whenever I take my rent check down and try to have a friendly conversation they are very abrupt and not interested.
Maybe the owner is going to sell the place and wants to empty everyone out. That 9% rent increase will work!

I am one of the managers at The Hague Towers. My name is Rachel, I have been working here for a year and half and I truly love it here. The environment with the other managers and co-workers is a wonderful atmosphere.
I wanted to respond to the comment above. Rent increases are decided by our owners in New York. The increases are also determined by increases of water/gas and electric. The city of Norfolk had significant increase with water/gas and electric prices. Our rents include all utilities. The office would never say what next year rent increase would be, we don't know yet?????? 2007 rent increase was an average of 6%, depending how long a resident has lived here. 2008 rent increases will be determined soon, the owners will inform us.
We do have new double pained windows.
Our building was built in 1964, the owners have done a wonderful job keeping this building as up-to-date as possible.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us.
Thank you,
Rachel
