Nice Apartments, Awful Management

I've lived at Summit Square now for 4 years. There is a definite love/hate with being here. I love the location for me because it is so close to my work, and overall is a good and safe neighborhood. However, as has been pointed out in the other messages, the management here is terrible, and they definitely "squeeze" to make more profit.
Examples:
There were a set of stairs that they waited until they were so rusty that they were declared unsafe, and they had to be torn down and new put in. However, even the new ones were put in so cheaply that they are rusting away and sections have already broken free from the welds. I personally won't walk on it.
One of the great things about the area is that they have a lot of parking spaces. Sometimes, a person from outside the apartment will park there. I understand that you want to try and keep the spaces for your own people, but the occasional transgression is not worth going nuts about. Well, the apartment complex has now instituted a draconian procedure where every car has to have a sticker on the car. At about 3am each morning they check, and any car without a sticker is towed away (roughly I might add) and no notification is left. The stickers are electrostatic and will fall off occasionally, and a person will get their car towed. Also, if a visitor comes, and you forget (or don't have enough, you only get one extra pass) they will be towed. It's $125 for each day to try and get it back. This is not the projects or the ghetto, this is Oakton'!
Payments in Virginia are allowed to be up to 5 days from the due date (rent due on 1st, actual payment can be up to the 5th at Midnight. Their policy is to penalize you if you drop it off on the 5th, and they have closed their office (5pm, gee I'm not home by then). Don't try to mail it to them, because if it hasn't arrived, it doesn't matter when the mail was dated as being sent. Also, here's a really funny one, they don't take cash. Yes, most of us pay by check, but I have seen people come in who were going on vacation and had the month's rent there and tried to pay. Not accepted (How can you legally NOT accept cash, it's legal tender').If there seems to be a mistake about a check (I've also had them lose a rent check, and they said I didn't send it. Ouch, $200 late fee).
Rent increased approximately 40% in the last 2.5 years I've been there (when new management came in, even worse than before).
Even before the stickers came about, my car was towed 2 times because they didn't see i driven (this is a brand new car, with all current stickers on it, not some hunk of junk). Well with my job, I only drive it in the evening and on weekends (which is when they're closed.). What business is it of theirs when I drive the f***ing car!
I know that not all of these are items that everyone would encounter, however they are items that you *might* have, or something similiar, and you will run into trouble with the management. If there is doubt about something, it's your fault. Travel with care with these people.
