Yo!

My apartment is a dump

I have lived in a garden apartment by myself for a year, and I am celebrating the day I move out. The worst part was all the bugs, which could just be a product of living on the first floor, but it was still ridiculous. I was killing 10-20 a day, witnessed 3 of them crawl out from under the bathtub within 5 seconds of each other, and most corners had a collection of dead bugs from where the spiders killed them. The people who live above me are not particularly loud people, but every time they took a step it sounded like the ceiling was about to crash down. They got up at 4:00 a.m. every morning, thus waking me up with their footsteps. I could also hear the guy upstairs snoring every single night. The painters were very sloppy in their work because most of the fixtures were just painted right over. I did not feel that the locks on my door were adequate, so I never felt very safe in this apartment. Oh, and the real kicker' When I first moved in, sewage was coming up the kitchen sink, and it wasn't mine. Fortunately they fixed that within 24 hours after I notified them, but I did mention the words "health department" when I complained. My toilet tilted forward significantly when sat on. My smoke alarm went off a few times I used the oven even though I didn't burn anything and there was no smoke. My closet doors are the sliding bi-fold kind, and they eventually completely broke because they were so hard to move. My stove fan smelled like burning rubber when used. The kitchen is ridiculously small, and the cabinets are sticky and look horrible. The living room light switch is BEHIND the refrigerator. No air conditioning, and the sliding windows make it difficult to put in a window unit. There are no window locks, only wooden sticks laying in the tracks that fall out on their own occasionally. The heat is just weird because it "radiates" from the ceiling. There is no temperature control, only numbers 1-5 on the dial, so you have to constantly adjust the dial to keep from getting too hot, but that is only after the two hours it takes to feel any heat in the first place. The only good thing I can say about this apartment is the water pressure and hot water are great. From what I can tell the newer townhouses seem nice, but stay away from the garden apartments. $420/month is waaaaaay too high for the dumpy apartment it is.
