In Retrospect... words from a RU graduate

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
I wrote a review a while ago, but it wasn't thorough. This one will be.
I lived in the Hunter's Ridge apartments from 2003-2004, and my roommates stayed until 2005. It's been a while, but I still remember my experience there vividly. Overall, the rent was cheap. We lived in a 4 bedroom, in one of the newer buildings. As expected with any Radford apartment there was the occasional party/noise. There was a good community in my building... a lot of us would attend each others parties if they had them (fixes the noise problem!). However, the "safety officer" who roamed the property wrote several apartments in my building up for noise violations. Oddly enough, the big parties weren't the ones who got citations... usually it was playing music or something in a room close to a path that did it.
Maintenance was horrible at Hunter's Ridge. The staff didn't care about much when problems came up.... unless it meant THEY got more money. They scammed me out of 50 bucks when I moved out (I mailed them my key and the last months rent... they got the rent, but said they didn't get the key). After I moved out, my old apartment was broken into. Police don't really venture to Hunter's Ridge, which is good and bad. Good if you're drinking copious amounts/bad if you actually NEED them.
The park is right there, which is good for biking/running. The Dedmon Center was also close, but I hear students can't work out there anymore (which sucks). The grounds around Hunter's Ridge are nice, but had a lot of pet droppings while I was there (even though pets are supposed to be against the rules).
Bottom line, I moved to the on-campus apartments on Fairfax (and later Calhoun), and found them to be much better. Maintenance was 100% better, the school wasn't trying to screw you, they're close to campus, and they're close to all of the parties. Living in Hunter's Ridge is kind of isolating. Not many people want to walk down there to visit, which forces you to walk up the Radford (about a mile up hill).
I had fun while living there, but mostly because of my roommates. We made the most of it. After living there another year, everyone had moved out to be closer to campus.
