It was an okay first place

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
My husband and I moved in to Archstone Reston Landing in October of 2004. We got a 1 bedroom apartment on the second floor since we where only just starting out. The lake with all of the willows and the Gazebo were a big plus and provides a great running or walking trail. The apartment it self was nice enough. When we moved in their was the normal wear and tear of someone having lived there before; cuts on the linolium in the kitchen, small permanent stains on the counter (probably from spilled hair dye)and etc. The apartment was reasonably clean when we moved in though I definately advise cleaning everything when you move in anywhere new anyways. Parking was never a problem, the lights outside the windows were a bit annoying but blackout curtians fix that problem. Most of the management is really friendly. You have three days to turn in your rent, and most are willing to listen to your issues and be very helpful. Cybil is EXCELLENT!! The main manager is a ----- and isn't helpful at all! We went to her to complain about some new guys who moved in who had been making some noise. It was their first offense, so we didn't want to call the police on them, we just wanted to go to management the next day and have them remind the boys of the hours they should keep the noise down to be respectful of their neighboors. This didn't happen and the only thing she said was that she couldn't help us. The only other complaint I have was about the outside painting they did this summer. Firstly the yellow color they picked is HORRIBLE and it looks unfinished in the places where they left the old color. This also meant that we could not use our balcony for two weeks and had to store our outside stuff inside, which is not nice. There is some definate inconsistancy with the way things are done, and while neighboors are friendly and everything I feel the apartments are overpriced for the quality of living with the space and the obvious signs of wear in the apartments. It's an okay first time experiance, but I don't reccommend this place for long term living.
