I live at Charter Oak and yes the rent goes up every year, however, if you have lived in an apartment the rent goes up every year, unfortunately we are not in a rent controled state. I have lived at Charter Oak for 5 years now and find the manager and staff very responsive to the needs of the residents within the community. I read the other reviews and find that when people tend not to get their way regarding rent, pets, etc. everything tends to look bad in the eye of the beholder. When people have pets, they should be responsible pet owners and when you care about the place you live, you shouldn't litter, "Help keep your community clean", it is all an attitude about being happy. I wouldn't want them to renew my lease if I was constantly littering and not picking up after my pet. If you read your lease agreement, under community policies #12, it reads "No litter or debris shall not be placed on any portion of the common area". If the people who are so unhappy about living at Charter Oak, maybe they need to find somewhere they will be happy. As far as the other review regarding the safety at Charter Oak. I am sure if they read their lease, the management cannot guarantee the safety of everyone. They can call the non-emergency police and get a crime report for the area if they are concerned. I am sure if it is brought to the attention of the management, maybe we could organize a Neighborhood Watch Program. I have heard several other communities in the area that have done this and the program seems to be effective. As far as the pool, management told me when I renewed my lease, the pool would not be opening, however, they pay our Reston Association dues, so that we may enjoy the 17 pools and tennis courts in Reston, 3 of which are located within 1/2 mile of our commmunity. People should read all reviews and visit the property before making decisions on where to live, not necessarily is one opinion, the opinion of everyone.
