DARK secret...Carter Lake use to be Government Housing!'

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2001
****DID YOU KNOW**** about 5 years ago Carter Lake was GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIZED Housing. Yes welfare/section 8 homes. Another reason I?m ready to move out. Yes they may be remodeled, but the quality of construction (money saving government)for such things makes me wonder. Now on to the VERY LONG STORY of my 2 years at CARTER LAKE APARTMENTS.
Well, when first moving here from Southern California in the Spring of 2000, the management staff was very kind, courteous, and INCREDIBLY responsive. Thanks all to one employee there that truly cared about the residents. She was always available, and even returned calls left for her on her days off. TALK ABOUT DEDICATION. My Roommate and I loved it there.
Then the unthinkable happened. She decided to move on because the new manager was very difficult to get along with. That was a nice way of saying she was REALLY EVIL. And THAT SHE WAS. From that point forward the complex went on an incredible downward spiral. Never returning calls, taking days to fix things. And worst of all. We would come home from a hard days work to find a notice saying they were going to inspect the apartments first thing the next day! EXCUSE ME, but less than 24 hours notice of this is not what I call ideal service. I don?t want a stranger coming into my home with my dog there and I?m not! I have a home with LOCKS for security and PRIVACY, not to have someone inspect it at their leisure. We complained to the management and they simply stated we had NO choice in the matter. They have every right to enter the apartment. Yes they are correct in this, but the short notice did not allow us time to take the day off work or anything. So we stated anyone that enters will have to deal with our 120 pound Lab. (oh yes, they allow any size dog there, a good plus for most). Needless to say, they did not enter.
Another time the AC water main broke on the 4th floor (we lived on the 2nd) Water going everywhere and seeping into the AC vent! They took over *8* hours to get someone there to repair this.
And yes there is more. Another door note stating they would be having pest control come in to "protect" our home the very next morning. WE HAVE A DOG as many other residents do. They stated we would have to take our animals out of the apartment for a minimum of 8 hours for their health. Again, NOT ENOUGH TIME to prepare. I took the entire day off as did my neighbor downstairs. THEY NEVER SHOWED! Nor notified us. By 3PM we called the office and they said, "Oh we had so many complaints that we canceled it last night!" UGH!
Now the good stuff. The owner sold the building and a new management company took over. Currently they are remodeling many apartments and placing a new roof on there. The maintenance crew is very prompt. The management staff is pretty friendly. Sometimes helpful. But the overall state of the complex still has a lot of improvements to make. They are making progress. But in my mind the damage is done and it?s time to move when the lease is over.
