Not so Great

I'm surprised so many people claim to be happy at Carter Lake. I've lived here two years and found the management staff surprisingly spiteful and unwilling to fix things like the Laundry room door that would close with metal on metal and sound like a gun going off, or the constant stream of insects that were there to greet me each morning in summer when I opened my front door.

The cold tap (fawcet) takes five minutes to run before COLD water starts flowing. Initially it feels like you have turned on the HOT tap by mistake. When showering you get burned when the guy upstairs runs his cold tap. The garbage dumpsters are inadequate and the garbage flows out of the fenced off dumpster area on the weekends.
The weirdest thing is that the heat and A/C is CONTROLLED by management. You get it when THEY decide to turn it on. If you're roasting in late April or May, either buy a small A/C unit for temporary use or get a large fan, because the HEAT will stay on until management decides they're good and ready to turn it on. This past winter TWO days in a row we had NO HEAT, because the BOILER switch (the central heating works off the boilers) went off.

As far as soundproofing goes, the upstairs tenant starts going postal when I use my vacuum cleaner...UNBELIEVABLE.
The laundry room is filthy and often stinks of rotting food (on a Sunday) because some of the tenants are too lazy to throw it out at the dumpster so they toss it in the laundry room.

Parking is okay

I have to agree with this person. And sadly things have gotten worse for the tenants who plan to leave when there lease expires. I didn't want to stay on, on a month to month basis after my lease ended. So when I informed the management office, they became openly hostile. They demanded to know why I didn't want to stay on and "buy",....yes "buy", one of the "lovely" carter lake apartments.
I'm moving to Ashburn and can't wait to get out. Management was a real problem from 2 minutes after I signed the lease. After that they didn't bother to "act" polite anymore. Just dealing with them when I had to fetch my UPS and FEDEX parcels was a stressful ordeal.

I agree - management has been pretty bad. They are unwilling to help and can be plain rude. I can't wait to tell them I want to break my lease and move the heck out of here.
