Things have gotten worse

I have to agree with the other reviewer who complained that the neighbors are LOUD!!! I feel bad complaining about the other young people in my building (I'm young, but very quiet.)
I have complained a multitude of times to the management about the noise. I have even called the police on a few occassions. It has really been a big problem!! On Christmas Eve and Christmas, my neighbors blared their music well past midnight.
Last Saturday, I was woken up between 4 and 4:30 am by loud bass coming right through my bedroom wall. As far as I know, management has done nothing but send out fliers reminding residents to be quiet, since there has been no improvement. I also know that my upstairs neighbor has complained about the noise as well.
Also, last Spring maintenance had to come fix my air conditioner. The men who came - had to come back several times - never fixing the problem. One had tremendous BO and I had to air out my apartment for hours to get rid of the smell. He was not in a uniform - so had I not expected maintenance, I would never have let him in my apartment.
And the WORST thing that happened was in their attempts to turn off the power to the air conditioner, they began just haphazardly flipping on and off the breakers, despite the fact that they are clearly labeled. The result was - they shut off the power to my computer while I was working and I lost a lot of work because of them. I told the workers and they tried making up excuses - I never got an apology from them even when I asked.
I immediately called the office and got their answering service. I left a detailed message about the incident - my roommate even e-mailed the company - and we never heard back about it. No apology! I talked to them about it several months ago when there was another incident (yes, there are many to tell about) - and they had no record of any complaint. I lost work because of them and they sluffed it off - even though I had done what I could to let them know.
I know this is long already - but let me explain my scoring:
PARKING: is usually okay, although if the building is full sometimes there is no where for residents to park. I really think there should be at least 1 assigned space for every apartment and the rest open, except for the assigned visitor spaces.
NOISE: a BIG problem, they don't seem to want to deal with. I have complained many many many many many many (you get the idea) times about noise, and I know other people have as well.
GROUNDS: Used to be very pretty. The new company bought the property and within days they cut down tons of trees! HEALTHY trees! - despite them sending around a notice saying they were only cutting dead trees. They cut down the most beautiful trees that used to greet us when we came home. They haven't done anything else where they cut things down. Now there are just tons of stumps everywhere.
SAFETY: I feel pretty safe most of the time, but they got rid of the security gate that used to seperate my apartment from a wooded path which connects to the scarier apartment complex near by. There are usually good street lights, but sometimes they will just go out and things get very dark.
CONSTRUCTION: Clearly the walls are not very sound proof. Also the way the plumbing is you can hear the people above you pee. I'm not kidding - it's not that bad, you get used to it, but it's funny to think about. The cabinets are pretty cheap - and they're unfinished underneath. The blinds are extremely cheap - I have had several fall and break and all I do are open and close them - nothing odd. The apartments used to have nice parquet floor, but they changed and renovated them to have cheap carpet.
MAINTENANCE: HORRIBLE. Completely incompetent. When I first moved in, they were better, but it's all new people now. When maintenance couldn't fix our air conditioner after several visits, they finally sent real professionals - who pointed out some illegal wiring to me (which I took photographs of.) And when a tree fell on our apartment after a storm - it took them WEEKS to remove it!!! And my broken windows weren't even addressed until after the tree was gone. And yet when they want to cut down healthy trees, they can do DOZENS in a couple of days!
OFFICE STAFF: Nice on the surface, but when there is a real problem to deal with - they are a pain and sometimes plain rude. When the tree fell - I came home to see nothing but tree in front of my apartment - it even looked like it may have gone through the wall and windows. There was no notice on our door even mentioning that the office was aware of the problem and if it was safe to go inside or not. Later, when I called to report that our windows had been broken, one of the office staff (I don't know if I should name names) said, "No one else's windows were broken," in a tone that sounded like she thought I was being a nusance. And they did not help or apologize or even acknowledged our complaints when maintenance shut off power to the room where I was working on my computer making me lose a lot of work (and could have damaged my computer.)
OVERALL: It's a shame - it could have been a really nice place - and for a while it was. They have the worst office staff now than they've had for the 8 years I've lived here. At least they're pet friendly (sort of).
I'm breaking my lease soon as soon as I find a new place to live - and I am looking HARD.
