I've been at Carter Lake over 3 years, and it's gotten better over time.

---Pros---
You get a good amount of space for your money here. The apartments are in good condition, even if only superficially. Nice rural setting. Pet-friendly. Plenty of parking. Maintenance problems have been rare for me and fixed quickly. Lost water probably 3 times for a morning, AC compressor went out and was fixed within the hour (over 3 years that's pretty good). Staff is polite & courteous. Safe area. People in the neighborhood are friendly.

---Cons---
NOISE. The layout of the apartments and the cheap construction of the inner walls and doors means you hear EVERYTHING your neighbors do (yes, you can hear a whisper through the walls in winter) and any time someone opens any door in the hallway you hear it (all the doors slam hard, metal on metal).
Laundry machines are poor quality and not well maintained, but they get the job done.
Residents treat the common areas poorly, leaving messes in the hallways and laundry rooms, and often do not clean up after pets outside.

Notes:
There used to be garbage collection issues, which have been fixed for over a year now.

Overall, good place to live.
