While the general grounds of the place are charming, there have been multiple issues since I moved here in the fall. When I moved in, my apartment was dirty and there were dog urine stains on the carpets. The place is cheaply constructed and you can hear conversations outside, your neighbor's toilet, people walking up and down the stairs, etc. while inside your apartment. Forget relying on the management staff to do their job, they are unresponsive to calls and try to make you feel as though they are doing you a favor to accomplish the most simplest of tasks. My heating bill runs around $200 a month and I am freezing because of cheap, drafty windows and balcony doors. I commute to DC and the whole trip takes about 3 hours daily with the horrendous traffic out here. They work the service manager Fernado so hard. It seems as though he is the only one who is doing their job around here. They don't plow the community during snow storms and you are likely to have to call out of work. This place is not plowed by VDOT so you are on your own! Reconsider this community. The purpose of living in an apartment is that you don't have to worry about these types of issues. When you sign a lease, you are obligated to your agreement-plain and simple. The purpose of this site is to save someone else the hassle of going through a similar situation. Management did not hand out coffee, hot chocolate, and shovels. There was are still unpaved parking lots as of today. Other communities in the area seem to have a much more prepared management team who anticipates that one man with a snowblower can't clear an entire complex.

If they did not hand out those items, I would like to know who the individuals were in the office that offered myself and my neighbors shovels. Everyone that lives in my building were offered a shovel when we asked for some assistance. I have relatives that live in two neighboring apartment communities and there lots looked very similar to St Johns. I agree that I as well think highly of Fernado. He has always given great service to my family. But I have also received the same service from his assistant, the Korean gentleman. In speaking with Fernando, my understanding is that the snow removal service is contracted out and that they are not allowed to completely dig out residents cars for liability reasons. I know I would not want someone plowing and digging right behind and around my car. |

They did nothing for a full day during the big snow this past Winter. I have a 4wd and was still finding it difficult to safely navigate though the community street curves, dodging ill-parked cars here and there. No one ever offered shovels..the sidewalks weren't even salted. My wife was pregnant during some of the snow and we had to get out but she slipped anyway because they did NOTHING to get rid of the snow or ice!
