Like a few other people said a couple of these reviews had me worried, but the moment I say how nicely landscaped the complex is and meet the office staff all my fears were put to rest.
The grounds are beautiful and deffinently benefit from being associated with the Boulders Industrial Park. The pool is usually well kept and the work out facility is pretty good for an apartment complex gym. There are a couple of walking trails through the industrial park that are quite nice. It was neat to be able to go from a wooded environment to drive just down the road to the Midlothian Turnpike, which has everything and anything you could want, to being 15 minutes from downtown.
The office staff is very friendly and helpful and were one of the reasons I chose Birchwood. The maintenance staff is great which is sometimes hard to find at other places. We had an issue with our AC unit, and they came the same day and fixed the problem. We never had any problems with our electrical outlets. Although at least in our apartment, there were no overhead lights in the bedrooms, so the top outlets in the bedrooms are tied to the light switch, a little quark that took a little bit to figure out.
The apartments are well built, but starting to show their age. They still look nice but you can tell that they are not brand new. We were on the bottom floor and could hear our neighbors above us, but for the price range thatās not a surprise. It was never so loud though that it became a problem. For the most part the complex was well lit, but some of landscaping made it a little dark at night. However you will see many families at Birchwood, and even at night I always felt safe.
I lived here temporarily for spring and summer of 2006 before I had to move for work. If I came back to Richmond I would move in again without hesitation. I would without a doubt recommend Birchwood at Boulders to anyone.
