Affordable but property is really old and needs to be updated

I have lived in the Cloisters for 7 years (long time I know). I lived here so long because the schools are decent and I had credit issues. In the last few years I have grown really frustrated with the maintenance staff in regards the plumbing. I have major problems with the toilets overflowing, which happens 2-3 a month. The upstairs toilet will flood and the sewage will pour out of the ceiling into the dining room area and through the light fixture. Maintenance is "Johnny on the Spot" but they just bandaid the plumbing problem. So what happens is that the carpet stinks and stains and sometimes the water gets on my furniture. There is a great deal of mold in the apartment but you'll find that in a lot of places. I will be moving out of the area soon but mostly because of the gang problems in the apartments surrounding this apartment community (Nottingham Green). The office staff are great and do what they can to help you but I think they're hands are tied on fixing maintenance problems. This place is affordable but I would not recommend anyone live here long-term, especially if you have kids.

Thanks for writing your review, it's helping, the last person that wrote one was back in 2006. I am actually thinking about moving there because of location and cost. Plus I have driven around the complex twice, once on the weekday and another on the weekend. That complex seems OK, a lot of kids out (hope that'll deter some of the crimes).

The apartments are spacious, affordable, and convenient to the interstate, malls, and grocery stores. Just about every business closes around midnight here. The crime in this apartment community is minimal but it gets really noisy. The walls are paper thin, I have literally heard my neighbors phone conversation. Residents often speed through the apartments with the music blasting (at all hours). The only amenities they offer are the playgrounds, the basketball court and the pool. If you don't plan to live here long - I say go for it. The bad apartment communities are within walking distance from here, so I have to get my children away from this particular area. Oh yeah, guest parking can be bad, several of my vistors have been towed and it was expensive to get their car back.

I lived there over 8 years, also because of my kids being in school. It started out okay but in the 8 years, almost the whole apt. had to be re-built, piece by piece. walls fell apart, floors cracked and had greasy black sludge coming up through them, appliances were cheap and refurbished old ones that broke constantly, maintenance (when they did show up after countless calls to the office)basically "repaired" things with masking tape and blamed the residents for anything wrong, window sashes broke and slammed down on my kids fingers, one whole wall of the tub fell apart due to old pipes breaking and then flooded the entire downstairs, mold evident everywhere, carpet padding never replaced and rotted out, cabinets falling off the wall, garbage thrown everywhere, dog mess all over the sidewalks, clueless office staff who were very rude, a LOT of crime and vandalism (see Henrico County police reports) and drug dealing. Colony Management is terrible!
