I wish I looked closer when I toured . . .

The rental office is very friendly when you tour the apartment, but once you move in that's all over! The maintenance is SLOW. I put in maintenance requests MONTHS ago that were never adressed. The appliances are garbage, not even a full sized refrigerator. Our Washing machine broke and it took a week to fix it. The refrigerator in the kitchen blocks the silverware drawer from opening. They did major construction around our apartment, that lasted almost 9 months, they put a porta-potty right outside our window, they tore up the ground all around, blocked the entrance to our back door, etc. Not only did no one from the rental office inform us ahead of time of this construction, they wouldn't even address our concerns when we complained!!! I can even hear my neighbors on both sides when they talk in normal voices, and the new looking windows leak TONS of cold air (there's actually a breeze, and it's 20 degrees colder next to the window than the rest of the apt in the winter.) This complex looks great on the surface, but it is VERY unsatisfying after you're here for ahwile.

I lived in that dump in 1987. It didn't seem that bad until I had to go to the ER for breathing problems after I sprayed Lysol into the AC to try and kill dust mites which I am very allergic to. Dr. Mollen is his relative by the way. I didn't go back to him for (chemical) medicine when I found out. I wonder if it is costing people their health to live there. I believe his name is on the Jewish Community Center (MW's). He must have contributed a lot. His thing to us was, "Move if you're not happy." Before we moved, I created a "MOVE if you're not happy" white sweat top with a big picture of a "monster" on it and hid it under the kitchen sink for a "lucky person" to find. (Leave it to a clever fox to have an "answer" better than his.) Incidentally, something was fishy when he told excellent renter like us to "MOVE". We had been there almost four years. I think each time when you move a renter out you can legally raise the rent considerably. I'm not really sure how this works, but I have a hunch it helps on the taxes.
