In July, we moved to Richmond from out of state to work at MCV. We choose this complex after looking at nearly every apartment complex in the Richmond area. Its close proximity to a lot of stores and entertainment made it desirable. Thank goodness we chose only a 3 month lease since I did not want to commit for a year without knowing the area or the complex.
The apartments are in reasonable condition but the appliances do not work well. Our dishwasher doesn't clean the dishes, even with a prewash and our clothes do not come clean in the washing machine we rented. Our refrigerator is also very noisy.I guess this is the problem with inexpensive appliances.
The area around the steps entering our building is littered with cigarette butts and litter from our neighbors. I was very embarrassed when I had family visit me this weekend. It has yet to be cleaned.
The office staff has a few nice employees, Mina and Katie as well as the maintenance personnel, but my husband was treated very rudely by another female staff working in the main office. I have had the same experience. Both situations were unwarranted and are key in making the decision to leave.
Furthermore, children are always playing in the business center unattended for long periods of time, which cause the fax/printer to be broken frequently and the computers to not work properly. It also makes it difficult to have access to them when needed. I will say that the manager, I think his name is Jason, offered to print out paperwork for me, which I greatly appreciated.
The population here is diverse, which is wonderful. However, it is also very noisy. We hear our neighbor's bass from his tv late into the night or the young crowd coming in late in the night after a fun night out. We also can hear our neighbor snoring through the wall. ;0( It is just a big and busy, thus noisy complex.
We are happy to be moving to somewhere quieter, more organized, but still in a good location.

Try oaks at gayton, if you haven't seen it already. I lived there for 2 years and found it really nice.

I do not agree with this review at all. I have been living in this apartment complex for 3 months and I have had no issues with the rental office staff but find them to be very pleasant. On occassion, I can hear the footsteps of my neighbor above me. But, that is typical of any apartment complex. My appliances work fine and I have had no issues with my dishwasher or refrigerator. I also frequently use the gym and rarely have I seen children in the business center. The area around the steps in my building is also clean and free of cigarette butts or debris. I am unaware of a "young crowd" that you are speaking of. It sounds to me like you get frustrated whenever you hear people in the hallways. My walls are not paper thin either and I have no idea how you can hear your neighbor snoring. That makes no sense at all. I recommend that you purchase or rent a home because it sounds to me like you are exaggerating or making things up. This is a wonderful complex and I recommend this place to anyone.

I'm glad that you are having a positive experience, but unfortunately we have not. I encourage anyone thinking about renting anywhere should evaluate the place based on a wide variety of perspectives. We had tried to do so before moving in, and did not have enough information to make a proper decision. I encourage people to come and tour the complex independent of the initial tour. Look at the stairs to evaluate for debris. Talk to residents, see if jacuzzis/computers/printer/ etc. are kept in good working order on a regular basis. Ask to see an actual unit, not the model, and evaluate the appliances. See the maintenance, paint jobs, "cleaning" prior to moving in. At Madison at Spring Oak,expect noise at all times of day, which is fine, but it may be disruptive for some families or individuals. And yes, I can hear my neighbor snoring through the wall. Unfortunately, I think the individual must have sleep apnea, which leads to its very loud nature. We have friends and fellow professionals that have lived at Creek's Edge at Stonypoint, the Hamptons, and the Estates at Horsepen that have had wonderful experiences for similar rent costs.
