Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008

I lived in the Pohlig Box Factory July to November of this year. Only having a weekend to search, I researched and toured many of the apartment complexes in Richmond, none of which even compared with the amenities the PoBo offers. From the lobby, oriental rugs lead you to the elevator offering assorted free coffees, teas, and cocoa. There are rugs throughout the chair-railed hallways filled with knick knacks from antique stores. This building is the best of both worlds the charm of the old box factory and modern amenities of today.

Each apartment in the building is truly unique. My apartment was a one bedroom, about 610 sq ft on the 3rd floor and was absolutely perfect. It had original hardwood floors, wooden beams, exposed ductowork, granite countertops, flattop stove, plantation shutters, stainless steel appliances, exposed brick, track lighting, and a stacked washer and dryer in the unit. These are things that came standard at PoBo, which I would have paid extra for at the other apartments I found. In addition, the building offers free WiFi and a gym with two TVs, elliptical machines, weights, treadmills, etc., with the view of a small garden and fountain. Street parking is fine, I never had a problem finding a spot, it was rare that I had to park across 25th St. The street is well lit, so you can feel safe walking to your car from the building when coming in late. There are three options for parking street parking, the surface lot, and the garage under the building. There is a walkway on the side of the building with access to the Market at Tobacco Row and CVS, various cute restaurants and shops on Main Street.

What really sealed the deal for me was the building manager, Holly Hilton. Living alone in a new city can be difficult adjustment, but Holly made sure that every part my transition went smoothly from setting up the utility billing, to getting cable service. I work from home and travel often, so the concierge service the building offers pet feeding, plant watering, and mail delivery were great perks. I never had to worry that any of my packages would be sitting on the sidewalk; they were always placed in my hallway.

When my company transferred me to Long Island, NY earlier this month, I was devastated that I would have to leave my apartment so soon. Needless to say I couldn t find anything like it up here. The PoBo is truly a one of a kind and a great place to call home.
