I'm just embarrassed to live here

Let's start with the positive. The apartments themselves are huge and very modern looking. If you live on Broad you can sit at your window and watch the parade. It's carpeted. Neighbors are pretty decent people. The homeless people are pretty cool once you get to know them. If you hate the dorms at VCU, these apartments seem like the perfect alternative.
Now for the truth about 115:
The elevator has been broken since MID DECEMBER. Roaches and rats tend to run rampant. (You can call the office if you want but you'll get the same answer: "I just called the exterminator.") Maybe it's because people are leaving their trash in the hallways and right in the entranceway. This has been going on since December. The (lazy) property manager, Galene Williams, left notes 3 days ago taped on all the walls saying it's a $25 dollar fine to leave trash out. However, there was a bag of trash RIGHT NEXT TO THE LETTER SHE POSTED...and it had been there all day. (FYI--It's STILL THERE.) I'm still tryin to figure out how she posts notes but let the problem fester right in her face. And why she had to post it so ANYBODY walking by could see it, including people who don't live here. Then she posted notes about ONE BICYCLE left in the stairwell. WHO CARES ABOUT A FREAKIN BICYCLE WHEN THE ELEVATOR HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR A MONTH AND A HALF'' There are only 2 apartments on the first floor, so this affects about 20 apartments. I'm pretty sure this is illegal somewhere.
We all know they're not going to catch the perpertrators unless they install some security cameras--which they're too cheap to do. Yeah we're in a recession but I haven't heard of anyone paying less than $850 for their rent here. Provided there's no gym, lounge, pool, or decent (unshared) parking, I think they can afford a security camera. I don't care if doesn't even cut on, at least it would deter idiots. Give me an intimidating red blinking light or something. Personally, I think if she ever caught someone dumping trash she would pocket the $25. From my few meetings and observations of her (and her staff), I wouldn't put it past her.
Point is, she blatantly ignored the obvious issue of the elevator, which they have failed to maintain (along with the rest of the property). After she posted her many letters, angry residents covered the whole front area with trash. People are also writing on the walls demanding the elevator be fixed. It's childish, but it's their way of proving a point. If this was a ship there would be a mutiny.
We shouldn't have to call the front office all the time asking when the elevator will be fixed--if she was smart, she would send a letter to all the residents explaining the problem. It's not that hard to do your job, is it' And what gets me the most is from talking to other residents, she gives conflicting information. Maybe she thinks we don't talk to each other. Last I heard, it'll take $4000 to fix it. WHO CARES. We pay rent; the elevator needs to work. Figure it out.
If it were not for management and poor upkeep of the property, I would consider renewing my lease. Actually, I'm seriously considering breaking my lease and moving into an extended stay hotel--at least it'll be better maintained. Yes, it is that bad because my health and sanity are at stake. As one person already said, they have ruined what could have been a decent property because of their neglect and rude behavior. They don't seem to have a clue what's going on and don't seem to care. I can totally relate to everyone's point of view who has written a review thus far.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the "security system" on the door. I don't think anybody with a brain would come in here if they didn't have to. Even the bums who rummage through the dumpster are disgusted. And why have a security system when the door is easily broken'
Have I mentioned the elevator doesn't work' Great for agitating an old sports injury, such as mine. =D
