I've lived at The River Lofts (American Cigar Building) since last June, and I will not be renewing my lease. It seems cool at first to be living in an up-and-coming area of Richmond, but you soon realize that besides the Market and CVS, you have nowhere to shop and must drive long distances or pay exorbitant tolls to find a mall or a Target. Surrounded by the ghetto and rundown soon-to-be renovated warehouses, The River Lofts has a long way to go.

The apartments are lovely and unique with great appliances, cabinets, and fixtures, but when they renovated, they apparently didn't see the need to replace the old wooden windows. This means they are impossible to raise more than a few inches, and when it's humid, the wood swells, and they're pretty much impossible to lift. Also, the dirt and debris lodged between the beams in the ceiling fell when the apt above me got new carpet. I came home one afternoon to find dirt and wood chips all over my table, sofa, bar area. The office manager was very nice and had it cleaned, but it was kind of disturbing knowing that this crap could have fallen on me if I had been home.

Many of the other tenants seem young and obnoxious, pulling the fire alarms, fighting in the street, yelling loudly in hallways and apts., etc. Parking is TERRIBLE. Please consider these issues before shelling out $900 a month to live here.

You choose to live in an old tobacco warehouse and you expect to be living at the Hilton. I find it funny the things that people complain about on this website. Ofcourse, you are going to have a few obnoxious neighbors. You get this anywhere you live, especially in the apartments. Sounds like you should buy a house in the country. You won't have to worry about parking out there.

Looks like his complaints are justified to me. You must be one of the obnoxious neighbors, or just used to much cheaper apartments.
