I recently moved to the Richmond area in May for graduate school. I absolutely love the River Lofts at Tobacco Row. Initially I looked at apartments in the West End area, because I was not a huge fan of city life. I only started looking at the downtown area when I was in Richmond for Open House. I wish I had looked at the River Lofts sooner, because I wouldn't have wasted so much time. I also have friends from home that live in these apartments and friends from graduate school.
I can walk to my classes or take a bus. There is a grocery store and CVS right next door. The area to me is safe. They have security cars that drive around ALL day and night! They offer off street parking ($35.00) or you can park on the street for free. They have cameras everywhere and they review their cameras daily! They have cameras at each buildings main enterance, so you can see who is coming in and out of your apartment on channel 16. The people that live in the apartments are really nice and helpful. I haven't had a problem with noise since I've lived here. The staff are WONDERFUL and definitely have gone ABOVE AND BEYOND numerous times. Maintance is really quick to respond. The apartments, which were old tobacco buildings, are beautiful and unqiue. The layouts are functional and spacious.
The only downfall is the railroad tracks are really close the the apartments. You definitely get used to the noise. It is something minor, but I thought I'd share. It shouldn't hinder you from moving into these wonderful apartments.
The River Lofts are just the best place I found for my money. I looked EVERYWHERE before deciding on these apartments and I am so glad I know I live in the best apartments in Richmond. I feel safe and I feel at home. I knew my decision was made the moment I took a tour!
