I feel like I was lucky in getting an apartment with virtually no internal damage--other residents complained about non-working toilets and absence of power.

I didn't realize how much of a cave my apartment was until I moved into a place with windows that face the sun.

The building is pretty much falling apart--they fix water damage by replacing the destroyed drywall.

Forget talking to a human being if you have a problem--no one answers the phone in the leasing office. And they recently moved the office from next door all the way down to 15th street so it's even harder to contact them.

The office won't call you back...but they have no problem cashing your checks and tacking on extra costs.

I lived there for over a year--paid out the wazoo--and now I'm having trouble getting my security deposit back because they won't return any of my messages.

So do yourself a favor, and stay clear of any property run by Main Street Leasing. They lure you in with paid utilities and promises of improvements---DON'T BE FOOLED.

That is what the justice system is for. You send written, certified and signed letters with your complaints; giving a specific date of expected resolution. Then, if the landlord does not respond you make your case in front of a judge, who will have you pay your rent into escrow, instead of to the landlord, until the problems are resolved to the judge's satisfaction. Additionally, if you take pictures before you move in and after you move out to document the condition of the apartment; you will have no problem taking the landlord/management company to small claims court.
