Those are the exact words that I was told when I walked to my car to find someone else getting out of it. He looked like he could've been a 50 cent wannabe. When I called the number the management gave me for the investigative department, they told me that i had to call security and refused to call for me after i asked them to. This was last week.

There has been the same car sitting in front of my house without moving since christmas day. I think it's stolen and have complained several times about it. It's a big black SUV with nice shiny "bling bling" rims that scream "come look and steal stuff". I end up parking a good walk from my apartment since there are a lot of cars like that there.

My apt got broken into after I had resigned the lease and I had $6500 in electronics taken. It took the complex over two weeks to fix the busted door, and even longer to finish the job. I had to nail the old one in place.

I had to yell at some of the neighborhood kids for taking beer bottles out of the dumpster and breaking them against cars and in parking places, they just looked at me and said "Shut up, white girl."

I guess the beer bottles breaking aren't as bad as hearing gunshots almost everynight. Forget about NYE when all you heard were gunshots and sat in your bed shaking and hoping that a stray bullet wouldn't go through your window.

I've had several people over the time I've lived here tell me that I shouldn't be there because I'm white. I grew up where racism didn't exsist. and to know that people are pushing so hard to keep these unwanted stereotypes alive is beyond unbelievable.

It's a darn shame that what was such a beautiful neighborhood seems to be going down hill and in such an inglorious manner as well. As long as you are living there, you should look into the Landlord Tenant's Act to see if St. Johns Woods is, by acting so slowly and non-chalantly, not holding up their end of the "bargain". I must confess, when I was living in an apartment - my home was burglarized; the police were called and it was a big thing! The police determined that who ever the culprit was, it was to no fault of my own. So I talked to the apartment manager (not the busy-body, minimum-wage, regular staff) but the ACTUAL OFFICE MANAGER about the situation and they agreed let me out of my lease without any penalties. I agree with you that race has nothing to do with it. People take the "easy" route when trying to explain cause and effect to bad situations and unfortunately, we do live in an erea where "racist ideology" is still very familiar to . . . SOME people. When I lived there, St. Johns Woods was a multi-cultural neighborhood and I enjoyed relationships with Black, White, Indian, and Asian-Americans! Bad behavior is not assigned to any race; bad people do bad things, regardless. I am a Realtor - I primarily work to get people out of apartments and into their own home - even if the home or townhouse is not the "biggest, most elaborate" abode built, home-ownership (especially for First Time Home-Buyers) has quite a few adantages to living in an apartment complex where you are at the mercy of . . . a lot of minimum wage, "I don't care" employees who just don't "get" how issues like this affect your enjoyment of a community. If you want to get out - give me a call. I'd love to help get you into your own house, condo, or townhome. Larry Winkler, REALTOR. 804-921-2673. You need to get out of there yesterday! I was a tenant as well and hadn't even been there a year when i came in one night and as i was getting out of my car a gun was shoved to my head. 2 thugs robbed me. I worked diligently with the Police and the Commonwealth's Attorney and the thug who held the gun to my head (he was 17) is now in jail for 20 yrs. w/no parole. The lighting at St. John's is pathetic, the staff is not that caring, however, they did let me out of my lease w/o any penalties. This complex used to be the talk of the town 20 years ago.. everyone wanted to live there..now it's the talk of the town alright but not for the right reasons and everyone wants out. Get out with your life before they take your life. Take it from one who is VERY lucky that she is able to be here today to write this. After the thugs left me they went down the road and shot someone. I am very lucky to be alive. The next person may not be that lucky!!
