Horrible two year experience

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009
I moved to this building in the early summer of 2007. For the first few months mostly everything was fine except for the occasional mouse here and there. When January came around we had to renew our lease or find a new apartment. This is when they trick you into staying. They said we would have free cable and things like that so we decided to stay but since we had only lived there for about 6 months we didn't have any problems yet. As soon as we made the commitment to live there for another horrible year the problems started. We had tremendous leaking in our living room and dining room as well as in two of the bed rooms (which we never repaired). It took them three weeks to fix the living room mean while we had no ceiling in that room because they ripped it out. However, they did not rip the wall down even though it was molded. They put dry wall on top of the molded dry wall (which is a severe health hazard). Other than that we had many plumbing problems, noise issues, frequently broken elevators, disgusting washers and dryers, and the most ridiculous landlord I have ever worked with. He would give us notices one or two days in advance if we needed to remove pets (for maintenance to spray for bugs) or if we had to clean out all the food cabinets (again for maintenance to spray for bugs). And when you work and go to college that is not very much time to do that. The security doors are not secure and are propped open all the time when makes it easy for unsafe people to get in, like last spring when there was a stabbing in the building and no one ever informed us. I had to ask around for someone that new what was happening when there were 7 abulance trucks out front, then the next day I searched for the story and found it on the news. The heaters are not controlled by anyone but the landlord so if your apartment is too hot, oh well! Or if the heater breaks and you have to go out and get yourself a space heater, turn in the receipt to get reimbursed, and then (without any warning) have to give the space heater back because the landlord is cheap and has no feelings, oh well! Overall, this was uncomfortable and miserable to live in. Not to mention we were supposed to receive our security deposit (which he deducted money from anyway for no reason at all) about two weeks ago and still have not received it even though we called at least 10 times and spoke to that "lovely" landlord. There are much better places out there for the same price with much better quality! Just look and you will find something better!
