The River Lofts at Tobacco Row formerly Tobacco Row Apartments

Previously recommended - but not as much now

Update to my previous review below: I completely agree with the reviewer from 8/21/07. Parking now is a major hassle and the new management was generally dismissive of the concerns I raised over parking -- for the last five nights it has taken me nearly 20 minutes to find any decent parking that is safe. I learned that residents who want to park in the designated lots for Tobacco Row Apartments will have to start paying $35 per month/per car for a decal. Management informed me that this will be taking effect in October or November. I wonder when they will choose to inform tenants of this new policy.
In addition, general maintenance has declined since new management took over. I am in the Annex building and for over two months there has been a hole in the ceiling near the entrance with water stains running down the wall and over a good portion of the hallway. For what we pay in rent, we deserve better maintained common areas. For over three months, I have been told that "major renovations" are planned, but so far I've seen no progress to that effect.
Not a terrible place to live by any means but there definitely has been a noticeable decline since new management took over earlier this summer.
Previous review -
I have lived at Tobacco Row Apartments for over two years and have had a generally good experience. I like my apartment, the location and the flexibility a month-to-month lease affords. I was a little disappointed when the River Lofts took over Tobacco Row in April - primarily because it meant that the existing management and staff who had been there for over 15 years, I believe, had to leave. They were very responsive and seemed to genuinely care about residents. It has been too brief of a time since River Lofts management assumed control to fairly present a full opinion of them, but I seem to notice a general difference in the attitude displayed by staff. I have had questions about the new parking situation (a major lot on Main is no longer available) and felt that my concerns were pretty much met with a dismissive tone. Even with the ability to use one of the River Loft lots, I feel that parking is now much more limited. All in all, though, I would recommend Tobacco Row to anyone looking for a unique apartment in an interesting and diverse part of town.
