Okay, thinking back to the day that I signed my Lease Agreement, I should have known that something was wrong. I was so excited to be moving out of my parent's house that I did not pay attention to the "subtle" signs that the management staff was giving. Like the fact that I was not allowed to see the apartment before I moved. The fact that the rent would be free for 2 months. These would normally worry people. Not me...yet. I signed the Lease and went to see my apartment. It was dirty (there was grease all over the stove, the closet doors wouldn't shut, outside there was trash in the hallway). Let's just say that I was not impressed. I immediately went to the rental office and told them that I would not stay there. They were slightly grumpy but did say that I could move to a different style apartment in Colonial. I agreed because my sister had lived there several years ago and said that it hadn't been too terrible. How wrong my judgement was. Once again, I was given the keys to the apartment without looking at it. When I went to that one, again it was extremely dirty, there were several maintenance issues that were just plain overlooked and the floor and ceilings looked like they were going to collapse. Needless to say, we were very upset about this. When leaving the apartment, we noticed that the door next to us was ajar. Curiosity made us go into the apartment. It was in much better condition, the carpet looked newer and the appliances weren't as crusty and old. I demanded that I get this apartment. The manager was very good about getting approval for me to move and also allowed me to have an extra month's concession for having to move 3 times! I thought that was very nice. Unfortunately, I still have to call service multiple times to get things fixed, even repeat calls, and they don't seem to care. I can hear people conversing outside, next door, downstairs, etc. and there is constant traffic in my building at all times of the night. I will not renew my Lease here because I like to live in peace and don't like spending my hard-earned money on a place that does not feel like home.
