So-So
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 9/10/2009
Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
This is going to be long, but I am trying to cover everything. Overall, the apartments are decent...not spectacular though. They are older, and it definitely shows in the inside. The walls are painted a light cream/whitish color, but they have ugly swirl designs on them (they show up the worst in the bathrooms). There are poor patch jobs throughout the place, and several holes, dents, etc. on the ceilings and walls. I am probably most unhappy with the bathrooms, there is zero counter space and there is only a single small plug right under the light fixtures. I can't plug my curling iron or hair dryer in, I have to use an extension cord to reach into the hall or bedroom. The apartments sort of remind us of cheaper hotels, as they have rusty metal bars for your towels, the a/c unit outside always makes it very noisy in your bedroom, things are a little rickety, etc. Things are very off-center (light fixtures, switches, mirrors, towel racks, etc). From what I've seen so far, these apartments do offer more sq. ft. for the price, and they do include water, heat, and gas for the stove. However, I don't think they made the best use of the sq. ft. b/c the layout causes a lot of things to be cramped. There is a closet on the balcony for storage, which is helpful, but it does result in a small balcony. I noticed that others have said they can't hear their neighbors, but I disagree. I can always hear those above, beside, and below me. Some of it is the fact that our building has a lot of partiers (which mgmt does nothing about the late night parties outside the window or the noise), and the water and footsteps are always heard, as well as music, dogs barking, telephones, etc. The other day I actually heard the woman next door peeing and then flushing, and that was the first I've heard that much. The office staff is nice, but they don't go out of their way to be friendly. Catching them during office hours is like guesswork, don't count on it. Maint. is very prompt and polite. I would say that what you see when you first enter the community (flowers, etc) is the best kept part. It is very pretty and well kept, but is rather deceiving as to the condition of the rest of the community. You are allowed to paint or wallpaper, as long as you paint it white before you move out. I'm not sure if it is the age of the buildings or what, but there is a bit of a smell that comes out if you don't have candles lit or something, and I had new carpet put in, so I know it can't be that. The windows are very outdated, not sure how secure they are. The kitchen is galley style, not room for more than one person. Laudry room is a very tight squeeze, and has a louver door that doesn't do much to muffle the sound. The walk in closet in the master is a good size for an apartment. It takes forever for the a/c to cool the place down, we always have to manually shut it off or it will run forever. You couldn't go to bed with it on or go somewhere and leave it on b/c your electric bill would be sky high. There are no lights or fans in the living room, you will need a lamp if you want any light. I haven't been inside many other apartment complexes yet, but I guess if you are limited to choosing a complex, this would be best for size and price, probably not for quality though. Hope this helps someone, I wish I'd have had an in-depth description to read!
