pretty good place to live!

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
These apartments are pretty good. A few days before my move-in, it was discovered that the previous tenants (and their dogs) of my unit had trashed it. Completely. They also left an unpaid balance on their gas account, so I was unable to set up the utilities. The leasing agent ended up finding me a better apartment. They had new carpet, vinyl and new paint done on this one where I live now. The kitchen countertops and the vanities in the bathrooms leave something to be desired, but they're not completely hideous.
I have the 2 bedroom/3 bathroom/additional loft model. The living room has vaulted ceilings and it gets SO HOT in there in the summer. There's not even an air vent in the actual living room... there's one that blows into the dining room and one in the entry hall area.
I live on the top floor (3rd floor), but the ground level at the front is the second floor, so I only have to walk up one set of steps. Being on the top floor, we don't hear any of our neighbors. We do have a few squeaky floorboards though. The balcony was just redone and it's now very nice.
A few things that annoy me--
The apartment gets very hot in the summer and it seems like the a/c just can't keep up. It actually froze up a few months ago and caused a leak in the wall that went through to my closet/carpet. It took almost a week to have it fixed with dried carpets and removed mold.
The hot water/heat is not enough when you have 3 people living here. Apparently the heater runs off of the hot water, so they tell you to turn the heat off before you take a shower so that you have enough hot water. This is absolutely infuriating and someone usually ends up with a cold shower.
The office staff is really nice, but the maintenance people hardly speak English and don't seem to understand the maintenance problems as you describe them to them. I've actually had a lot of problems that required maintenance attention: the water leak, the lack of hot water/heat, blown circuit breakers, leaky refrigerator (twice), drain stopper broken, broken washing machine. On the other hand, when I wanted them to install a digital thermostat and a light fixture for me, they actually did it and for FREE!
There's a real lack of overhead lighting in the dining area, living room, and loft.
Even though I've had a lot of problems here, I would still recommend them. They get the maintenance stuff fixed if you really bother them consistently. I usually put like 4 different requests in at the same time that way they can get a lot done on one visit and it makes it look like my apartment needs urgent attention. The office staff are very nice. When my washing machine was broken for a week and a half, they loaned me a key to the model unit to use the one there.
I don't hear any noise in my apartment at all. There is plenty of close parking. The interior looks pretty nice. Neighbors seem cool, if somewhat reclusive. Not a lot of kids running around. The pool/fitness center are nice. I feel very safe and comfortable here!
