Appearances aren't everything

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
I have lived here a little over one year and there are good things & there are bad things. I will first list the good, the maintenance team are fantastic & I don't think you could ask for more out of them, I hope they get the recognition they deserve within the company they work for. The neighbors for the most part are nice & considerate. We had some meth addicts in the next building over who aren't afraid to make sure everyone knew they were there (scaling balconies & peeing off theirs on occasion). They are gone now. Otherwise everyone else has either been friendly or kept to themselves. I appreciate that the apartments are built in a way that you do not hear your neighbor for the most part but from what I understand if you have a kid living above you it can be fairly loud' However, I truly have no complaints on sound at all. The location is okay, if you are looking for someplace neighborhood like look elsewhere, this is more the strip mall zone & has next to no sidewalks & no crosswalks to speak of. So here is some of the bad, the management is sweet as pie until your in and then you are basically ignored or put off. The management can't keep their financial records straight to save their lives, I had heard this from other tenants but not experienced it until about my 4th month in, then it was a disaster & took entirely too long to straighten out (I was the one proven as correct in the end). The gym is okay at best and they keep it the same temperature as the main management office which is big so if you want to work out in the winter be prepared to bring a lot of water to keep hydrated because it is very hot in such a small space. The pool, lol, is not a pool unless you are 10 years old or below. For the most part the pool is no deeper than 3 1/2 feet, the deepest area is 4 feet deep, there is no real "swimming to be had in it". It opens at 10 & closes at 8 and is closed one day a week. The garbage compacter backs up at least once a month so there is garbage piled up all over the trash area, might not sound like much but there are a lot of apartments in this community and only one trash compactor. They do have a recycle bins & I think that is a plus. I had to pay a $500.00 pet deposit that is non refundable, I don't understand that (the part about being non refundable makes no sense if there is no issue with your pet). So here is my BIGGEST PROBLEM, I had heard the rent goes up a lot after your 1st year but when I received my letter to resign my lease they wanted me to pay an additional $130.00 a month, WHAT''' It makes no sense to me to raise the rent on a tenant that has always paid on time, never had a issue with and is an ideal tenant. When you go to their website my apartment is listed as the same price I was paying so obviously it isn't a rental market change. I opted to take the month to month which is an additional $530.00 a month but finding a new place is well worth it. The bad outweighs the good by far, unfortunately. If they could change the management out (with the exception of the manager who sits in the lobby) and not gouge the tenants on lease renewals other things can be overlooked but this place is certainly not worth the $1680.00 they want a month for 2 bedrooms.
