You will not be happy here

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
1. The rent is overpriced--$1265 for a 1 bedroom w/garage in 2002, but oh wait! We'll give you a discount, making that $1124 a month (some discount)! Upon renewal, we got a whopping $10 cut off the rent per month. BUT! That was only for 10 months. The other 2 months we have to pay $1265! Oh, and they also offered to steam clean the carpet when we renewed. They must not have used any kind of detergent in with the plain old steam cleaning, because the carpet was not clean when they were done. It looked fluffy, but it wasnt cleaner than when they started.
2. There are a lot of dog owners in this complex. Eighty percent of them refuse to clean up the poop their dogs leave behind, even though the complex provides plastic pooper scooper bags and trash receptacles for this specific purpose. HOWEVER! There should be more of these receptacles! There are not enough, and maintenance does not replenish the plastic bags quickly when they run out--leading to people not cleaning up after their dogs.
3. The windows and outside doors leak a LOT of air--there are no storm windows, and no insulation around the doors. Expect to lose a lot of heat and air conditioning this way, and expect that a lot of spiders and beetles will be letting themselves in. Happily, I have not seen any roaches, though. Oh, and did I say mice' Yeah, we had mice in our garage last winter...
4. Parking is a travesty. There were not enough spaces added into the design of the complex, leading to inconvenient parking--especially if you're not home by 5:30. Good luck finding a space near your building!
5. The pool is tiny. It's the size of a giant bathtub. I think they just added it to make us laugh. But why do the people who live in the townhouses next door get to use it'
6. Good luck enjoying the luxury of a hot shower in your apartment. The hot water heaters are outfitted with a scald mechanism, leading to the water coming out hot but then immediately turning lukewarm. After the winters we've had recently, this is not fun in the morning when you wake up to your drafty cold apartment and can't get a hot shower! I've called maintenance twice about this and what they did was this: they turned up the heater a tiny bit, ran the water in the kitchen sink for 5 minutes, then tested the temperature of the water. They left me a note saying that the temperature of the water registered "in the 90s." HELLO! Human body temperature is 98.7 degrees!! For a human to register water as warm or hot, the temperature has to be at least 100 degrees, higher than our body temperature!
7. There are some tenants who think they're too good to touch the door of the trash dumpster (which is clean) with their bare hands. Therefore they drop their trash on the ground, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DUMPSTER. And how about the consideration of the person who lives above me, who when smoking out on their balcony, taps their cigarette ashes all over my car which is parked below'! And the jerky woman in my building who dumps her unwanted junk mail on the floor in front of the mailboxes, because she?s too lazy to throw it away' And the other tenants in my building who drop cigarette butts and trash in the breezeways and leave it there' And the jerks who drop their fast food trash in the parking lots' Lots of considerate, classy people living here.
This seems like a lot--but just suffice it to say that you will be very unhappy if you decide to live at Village at Potomac Falls. I would move if I could, but personal circumstances prevent me from doing that.
