Good choice if you're low on cash

I moved here right after college, and work in Tysons Corner. When I found Vienna Park, I was desperate to move out and now rent a one bedroom there for $930 a month. I'm on the first floor and do not feel unsafe. No one has ever taken anything on my porch, and although the neighbors aren't friendly, I've never really made an effort to get to know them either. The office staff and maintenance people are very helpful when you have problems, and I think that's a big plus for them. We also have police presence both at the complex and the shopping center next door. I would say the biggest problem might be petty theft, but I've never had any problems. Noise has not been a problem, either, besides the occasional ticking in the wall from pipes and stuff. I don't have a dishwasher, but there are only 2 of us and we really don't need one. I do have a list of things I think are not good about the complex, but after living in Fairfax for 3 years before, I have come to see the issues as general apartment problems for this area.

1.There are many unsupervised children here, and it gets frustrating. It's obvious that the majority of parents here work full time and are not around to watch their kids, but management has definitely adressed this problem.
2.There is no visitor parking. And they tow every night. This is common all over northern VA, so it's not really worth complaining about. Every apartment complex that has visitor parking seems overrun with cars that stay there for days on end, leaving no spaces for "real" visitors, so no matter what, it seems like you lose. At least here, we have a surrounding neighborhood that visitors can park in, and a shopping center next door visitors can park at until midnight. Yes, it sucks. No, it won't change. I just deal with it.
3. The laundry facilities are terrible. The washers take forever, and the dryers don't dry. I go to the laundromat next door and suck it up, knowing that the next place I move to will have to have a washer/dryer in the apartment.
4. Bathroom is pretty small.
5. Not much light comes into my apartment since I'm on the first floor. Looking back, I wish I had the time to wait for a second floor apt. to go up for rent.

Overall, I've had a pretty good experience at Vienna Park. I don't have a lot of money, but at Vienna Park, I am able to live just minutes away from my job, enjoy being close to both 495, 66, 50, and both the Vienna and Dunn Loring metro stops. I could never afford a house in my neighborhood, so instead I rent. It sucks to spend half my monthly pay on rent, but that's life in NoVA. I doubt you can find anywhere cheaper in this area. If you're young, tolerant, and broke, you will not mind living here. If you make good money, but just want to save a few bucks on rent, don't bother. I wish I could afford somewhere more luxurious, but for now this works for me.
One last recommendation: do not live on Patrick Street. I live right off of Cedar Lane and feel much safer. On Patrick there are always people loitering, and it's a lot farther from the rental office. I don't know why it's so much worse, but just take my advice. I'm positive that the people who complained about this place lived on Patrick. It's sketchy down there.
