Affordable, but worth it'

geez, where to begin. how about price and location b/c that's why i'm currently living here! it is by far the best price for the location. but what's the old addage' "you get what you pay for'" that's pretty much the deal here at VP.
fortunately, i have purchased a home and will be moving out of here shortly.
it's not ALLLLL bad, let's go with the positives:
--maintenance staff is very good, friendly, and fixed problems quickly and the first time. [problems included heat not working, and loose toilet, and running tub faucet; heat was an emergency and fixed w/in the hour]
--new office staff hired [nancy i believe] is much more friendly. although i think there is still ONE lady there who has the attitude that she is doing residents a favor by answering a question or request. VERY RUDE! i cringe everytime i get HER on the phone or see HER as the only one in the office. she makes you not even want to bother with asking her anything!
--patty the manager has always been accomodating and as friendly as necessary.
--new parking policy in effect in july 2002 gives apartments ONE reserved spot [numbered]which wasn't a problem for me since i only have ONE car, but i can't imagine what 3 bdr people do! AND, the numbered spot, at least in my row of three buildings, is SIX spaces away from the entrance to my building!'!'!' GO FIGURE. i do like that it ensures a spot however.
--rooms are spacious
--location, location, location. 5 min away from dunn loring metro, easy access to 495, 66, and 50.
--office hours, they're open on the weekends BOTH days which is super nice for the working folk who can't get home by 5 before the office closes!
--great water pressure. i almost get hosed away with showers! the water pressure was so high that the tub hot and cold knobs were being forced open and thus the dripping tub faucet, or should i say RUNNING tub faucet!
--playgrounds and pool on grounds
ahhh, now for the BAAAAAAAAAAAAAD:
--ROACHES. ROACHES. ROACHES. not cute at all. extermination is every thurs upon request and at no cost thank god! the problem gets worse and better in cycles it seems. can't explain why. but roaches are def present and will need to be dealt with if you choose to live here.
--kids everywhere [may not be a bad thing for everyone, but for single, childless me, it is]
--old apts. i believe they were built in 1961 or so' paintjobs arent that great, wax jobs on the floors have old hair and dirt from previous tenants, don't be expecting anything plush here. but it's probably par for the course given it's age.
--i'd agree with all that's been stated about patrick street. cars there look horrendous. VP makes sure you have a registration for your car before you can park on the grounds and receive a permit. this probably explains the fact that you have run down hoopties lining the streets! dunno what really can be done about that by VP, pretty much out of their control. one just needs to be aware.
--laundry facilities look crazy. i use the laundromat next door as well. it's close and convenient.
--loitering of tenants, dunno if this is not allowed by VP, but on nice days and nights there seem to be many residents "hangin out".
that's pretty much it in a nutshell. it's not the most awful place. i grinned and beared it for a year b/c of the location and price. but i guess i will be thankful to be rid of the ROACHES! UGH.
