I moved here with three friends back in May of 2003. We are going to a local college, and we wanted to be out on our own, but didn't want to pay $1,000 a month for an apartment. We came to Briarwood and saw great squar footage for a low price. After checking the apartment we were to be living in, we signed the lease. That's when the problems started. The first thing was our discrepency sheet. We filled it out, but still nearly 9 months later, half of hte things haven't been fixed. During the summer months, the A/C didn't work, but since it was on, it literally tripled our electric bill. So we suffered the humid months with fans constantly running instead. The stove broke, and it took them days to fix it. The sink in the bathroom had a leak in it, and it took them more than a week to fix that. It took them 5 months to fix the outlets in the kitchen, as they had no power to them. The refridgerator has been "fixed." but it still leaks. One of our rooms has major leakage problems, and ALL of the rooms have waterspots in them. Just last week I saw a roach run around in my room. I understand that the maintenance staff has literally hundreds of units to service, and that it's hard for them to get out there on time, but a week to wait for an emergency call is rediculious. If they're that short staffed, they need to hire more people. The hours for the office don't coincide with some people's schedule. If you're even a minute late with the rent, you get charged 10%. Don't make the same mistake we did. Don't rent from Briarwood, or for that matter, ANY Great Atlantic Realty apartment.
