The apartment had great square footage...

My husband and I moved to this place last Summer. We did not get to see our apartment before signing the lease but instead were shown a "model." We were told that if we waited until our apartment was open for viewing, someone else would already have rented it. The apartment was on the first floor; the apartment that we viewed was on the 2nd. Had I actually seen a 1st floor apartment, I would have known that I would be living in the basement. The bedroom windows are all near the ceilings. I can look out at ankles on a nice sunny day. All the windows had holes in the screens (remember this was Summer) most would not even open. The air conditioner took forever to kick on. The carpet was very stained; it looked like someone had poured juice everywhere. Apparently no one did a walk through between tenants or they would have known that the kitchen was not clean even half way. No one even did a walk through with me after move in. I guess all they wanted was my money.
It looked like part of the ceiling had caved in and was spackled back in place. There quite a few gaps in the walls, which let me, get to know my other neighbors. I learned within the first week, that I am very handy with a big giant can of Raid and a shoe. I guess it was partly because there is a lake near by and I am in the basement. I got to see all sorts of creatures that I have never even seen before. Normal stuff I guessright'
This complex only has one maintenance person. He was very friendly but the complex is extremely under staffed. It took 2 months of calls to get my master bedroom toilet to flush completely. The heat bills were extremely high due to very old windows and poor insulation. It also took forever for the water to even get lukewarm. And considering that you have to pay all utilities, running the water until it get warm can cost. We were initial told that the rent included water. The rental office was very sympathetic with me as I recounted the various issues that were wrong with my apartment. Im really sure they really gave a damn, they probably were very glad that they did not live there.
There is no assigned parking. Coming home after 8 pm Monday- Sunday will make you have a nice long walk home. I guess no one went anywhere after 8pm. So going out to the club or going to the movies meant that you better have comfortable shoes in your car to walk back to your apartment.
I would recommend this apartment complex to someone who wants to live in a very old apartment complex with no upgrades whatsoever, wait forever for repairs, pay for all utilities, never find a parking space after 8 pm and kill lots of creatures. I guess this definitely proves you get what you pay for.
