We actually like our apartment!

Our family has lived in Banbury Lake Village for just over a year and we are quite content...EVEN THOUGH the buildings are older, and we can hear our neighbors at times, and even though we sometimes have to park a bit of a distance from our apartment, especially if we get home later.

But we do get to enjoy a lake complete with ducks, Canada geese, turtles, snowy egrets, cormorants, muskrats, and fish that you can actually see in the water. I've also spotted a red fox in a nearby field, as well as a raccoon. We also see blue jays and cardinals flitting about. If you enjoy flora and fauna, it's not half bad.

In addition, we make full summer use of the swimming pool (bigger and deeper than many) and 2 tennis courts (year round) available to tenants. Right now the clubhouse and fitness center are being rebuilt, so we'll soon resume our use of those facilities.

We do not like the fact that there is a single washer and dryer in each building (for 12 apartments to share) so we take our laundry to a nearby laundromat.

Another problem is that showers can suddenly get very hot when others use cold water. This will likely happen almost every time you shower...not a pleasant experience, but at least we've never had the experience of running out of hot water.

We also dislike the ancient windows that are impossible to wash properly and difficult to open. They truly need to be replaced.

But the staff are friendly and helpful. Whenever we've had a problem, someone has come by the same day or next to fix it. The buildings do need some renovations, but it is clear that the service staff are doing their best to keep people happy with limited resources.

The problem lies with those who own the property. A healthy re-investment would certainly pay off in the long term. And without any rent increases, please!

If you are considering living at Banbury Lake Village, make sure you look at the actual apartment you would like to rent. I personally wouldn't want to live in one of the ground floor units as they are truly like a basement suite in half of the apartment. While the top floor means you have plenty of steps to climb, it's probably the best option as it's quieter, and also warmer in winter.
