Not a bad place to live ...

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I've been living at Birdneck Village in a one bedroom with den for about 1.5 years now, and am actually pretty happy with everything. I've had a few minor maintence problems (washer leaked water, garbage disposal broke, knob on bathroom door wouldn't turn), but everything was fixed the next day (with the exception of the washer, since they had to replace it entirely) and I've had no problems since. I see an occasional ant or waterbug, but no infestations of any sort. Although a lot of the other reviews mention parking problems, I never have a problem finding parking near my building - there's always an available place somewhere. Visitor parking is inconveniently located, though ... the closest lot is a fair hike from my building.
The only real complaint that I have is the noise - the floors/ceilings are THIN. I have no problems with my neighbors on two sides of me, but the couple below me is terrible. They constantly have music blaring at all hours of the night and have screaming matches on a regular basis. Because the floors are so thin, it can get rather loud in my apartment. The jet noise can also be rather loud at times, but it's far less irritating than the inconsiderate individuals downstairs.
The rent increase when my lease was up in June was fairly substantial ($50 a month), but it still isn't terrible for the location. All in all I would recommend Birdneck Village to anyone looking for an affordable place near the oceanfront. The staff is helpful, maintenence is competent, and the proximity to the beach can't be beat (at least not in this price range!)!
