You'll regret paying high price for poor housing

My family and I rented at Birdneck for 3 years. All three of the area schools elementary, middle and high are excellant! We loved being able to walk to the beach and the swimming pool is very nice. We also felt a sense of community, as many of the others residing there had been there for years. This was our home for 3 years. We had a three bedroom, 2 bathroom and the rent was going up on an average of 100.00 per year. Way too much for us!
We had lots of issues with our apartment, mostly flooding and mold growing on water damaged walls/cabinets. The kitchen and bathroom were very ugly. The floors were the same exact industrial tile that was used outdoors for some of the apartment building common areas. Very ugly and impossible to get clean. Sewage would come up in our shower and flood our bedroom pretty much every time there was a heavy rainfall. Management was terrible...condascending and rude. The maintenance staff were slow to respond and repairs were made with dollar tree caulk and duct tape.
Terrible neighborhood...we didn't let the kids play outside and our cars were broken into twice. The towing company towed our brand new car the night we brought it home because there wasn't a sticker onit. We had to pay a lot of money to retrieve it.
Parking was ok...not the worst, but not the best either.
Very noisy neighborhood, lots of jet noise. VERY LOUD!
Grounds were kept nice in front of the rental office and the buildings that went along the main roads only. The park/playground equipment was in need of repairs.
Safety is an issue, our car was vandalized and broken into twice. the structure of our apartment was in poor condition. the buildings are very old and need to be updated. Unfortunately routine maintenance is done cheaply and doesn't stand up to the daily wear and tear, therefore, these apartments are
continually deteriorating and falling apart. Staff was cordial, however, they did not really seem to care about the poor living conditions. Our apartment was our home and that did not seem to matter to the staff. Overall this was a bad place to live. Although there were a few nice features, it wasn't near enough for the cost of the monthly rent. Furthermore, I mentioned already that raw sewage flooded our bedroom every time there was a heavy rain and maintenance would jsut tell us "sorry, it 's an old building". No effort by staff to take prevenbtative action...We had to live with this issue.

On 11/15/07 we went to visit our son and have dinner with him at Birdneck Village. He told us to park in a separate small parking lot that the maintenance worker told him was visitor parking. Well it wasn't, we came out to go home 1 hour later to find our vehicle had been towed by Jacks Towing. $125.00 later I got my truck back. Our son also says that the maintenance people will come in their home unannounced in the mornings! The building is in very rough shape, their balcony and the one above them is cracking and big chuncks of concrete have fallen out exposing the rebar! I am suprised it hasn't been condemned! I would not recommend anyone to rent from Birdneck Village and I will tell everyone I know not to live there.
