Bad Bad Bad do NOT move here

I first moved to Chase Arbor in August of 2006 into a one bedroom apartment and I have to admit I was impressed. The cabinets were new, the appliances updated and I recommended people move here based off of the apartment I moved into. Nothing was broke down, the carpet had spots when I moved in, but I steam cleaned it myself and it was like new. The only other problem was parking, if you weren't home by 5:00pm you'd have to park in another complex and walk all the way to your apartment which being a female alone walking at night it was very scary. If we had visitors the visitor parking was 3 complexes down which was so inconvenient. I renewed my lease in August of 2007 and in January of 2008 my husband and I decided to move into a 2 bedroom because I am 8 months pregnant and we needed more space. We were utterly disappointed when we moved. From day one we had problems after problems. It started with black mold(yes hazardous BLACK mold) being in both bathrooms, the electrical sockets were weak if you plug something in it would fall out or hang depending on how heavy it is, the dryer to dry clothes was completely broken it looked new but it didn't work at all and when they replaced it they replaced it with an old ragitty dryer that never got hot it only got warm so it took 2-3 cycles to dry clothes thus causing an outrageous electric bill, all the appliances are outdated they haven't been replaced since the 80's, the cabinets were not kept up so they were old and moldy, the worse was we had to time our showers after 10 minutes the nice hot water would turn ice cold so you'd have to move quickly, not to mention the criminal activity with hoodlums coming and smoking marijuana at night and the smell would come into your apartment, the list goes on if you knew all that was wrong you would think they would condemn the apartment we were in. I told them about the mold and they sent someone out in about a week, the people who came out didn't fix the problem they just took up the old tiles in the bathroom and put new vinyl tile over top of the black mold WITHOUT scrubbing the mold out to get rid of it so even after they replaced the tile you can still smell the stench of black mold which is hazardous to my family and especially me and my unborn child. After a month of being here in the 2 bedroom we decided to just break the lease and get out of here ASAP. Even with all the problems the ladies in the rental office tried to convince us to stay by saying the apartments are just "old" and that they fixed the mold problem and that we couldn't get out of our lease without paying. I don't consider covering up mold with new tile "fixing" the problem. They tried everything to get us to stay and even asked us "what will make you happy" our response was "let us out of our lease". Of course that wasn't going to happen even with all that had gone on they are all about the money and taking them to court would be a long drawn out process and we were just fed up with the bull. At this point we were just done with them and had already found another place to move and even tho we have to pay one months rent to move its well worth it. To anyone thinking of moving here RUN FAR FAR AWAY! DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! The money you pay here is ridiculous for what you're getting. We found a much better place for less money. We're moving in a week and its the best decision we've made this year!

in va if your material safety is threatened you can serve the landlord with a written Notice To Repair and if they do not remedy it within a reasonable amount of time, you can legally terminate the lease. I had to do this with Chase Arbor in 2004.

I lived at chase arbor back in 2000 and absolutely loved it, that was a long time ago. However a couple of months after living there, there was a major fire around the corner from our building.

I had to do the same things as "ninjagumby" with them in 2005. It was the only thing that motivated them to action. The whole Chase Arbor experience is just ridiculous! We moved out, too, and now love the place we're in. I'm sorry you had to go through all that!

I dont know if you are still trying to get out of your lease or not but the girls at the rental office did the same thing with me when I wanted to get out of my lease due to them putting the incorrect price on my lease then tried to charge me a higher amount. I had to call corporate and speak to this woman I believe her name is Laura or Lori, the first person they ask you to speak with is Diane and she is useless, avoid her like the plague. Try calling their corporate and keep calling until to get Laura or Ruthie, explain your situation and she what they can do for u, the number is 757.217.3400. I hope this all works out for you
