We moved into this apartment from Italy site unseen. We read the reviews and it did not seem so bad. When we got there it did not seem so bad, but it went downhill by the time we left eight months later.
First off, Norfolk/VA Beach is a dump, so it is hard to pick one part that is any worse than another.
The good part...this apartment was for the most part, safe. We were never robbed, attacked, beaten, or raped in our home. No one ever tried to break in. Our car was broken into but nothing was taken, someone just broke the radio face plate. But nothing too bad. Yeah there were shady people walking around, but once again this is the case in the whole city, so can you blame the apartment'
We never had a problem with maintenance. We called and it was fixed in 48 hours. I was home all the time and I never had someone in my apartment or show up when there wasn't a problem.
Parking is great. Everyone has a sticker. And if you have ever been anywhere else in this city you will know that it is a big deal with people parking all over on the street.
Okay, the bad. It is small. I don't know if they count the ceiling as square feet, but there is no way that apartment was as big as they said. We had a three bedroom and could hardly move. It was a joke for what we were paying.
They will screw you on the deposits. My husband is ex-army and LOVED the scrubbing toilet part so he is all into clean. We left and they said the only thing wrong was our oven wasn't clean, and then we get a bill for 250.00. Something about curtain rods were missing when it clearly stated on our move-in sheet (that they sent us back) that we never even had them. When we called they were all "Oh, take those off". So watch out.
As I had mentioned before, it went downhill fast. When we moved in there were a lot of nice families. They left in a hurry and the scum started moving in. I had my baby while I was there and I would wake up at 1 AM, 3 AM and 5 AM- my new neighbors were out on the patio with about 20 of their closest friends screaming, drinking, smoking, blasting the music... out of control...ALL NIGHT. I called the office and nothing was done. It kept going on until they left.
And these gross people have children, who are also growing up to be gross people. Disrespectful like nothing I have ever seen- and I am a teacher. They drive by cars on their bikes, scratching them up- if you say something to them they mouth off to you. Just awful, but I didn't fault them as their parents, once again, were gross.
If you have to live in VA Beach, rent a condo or house. We knew we would not be there for over a year so we opted for the apartment. It was awful. But it was no worse than anywhere else.

I agree; the area was DISGUSTING. I could barely take my son and dog on a walk without something disrespectful being said to me.
