Nice Place- If You Like Your Cars Broken Into

In the past two weeks, two of my vehicles have been broken into. The first, they smashed the window to steal a GPS, the second they jimmied the lock somehow and stole my stereo. Security, if we even have it like the office swears we do, is seriously LACKING. We all signed a Neighborhood Watch Addendum on our lease agreements, and part of that stated that there would be information about monthly Neighborhood Watch meetings in our monthly newsletters. I've been here about 4 months now, and guess what' I have YET to see any information on any meetings. Aside from the SERIOUS lack of security, The place is just okay. The apartments are small (all you people who are talking about how huge they are must have previously lived in cardboard boxes- I had to give away a ton of furniture when I moved here, and I still have no idea where I'm going to put a dining room table when I replace the one I had to leave behind). The patios are nice a big, but I'd rather have a smaller patio if it meant having somewhere to actually put normal furniture on the inside. The washer and dryers SUCK- they're in a cramped little bathroom, stackables, and barely hold half of a normal load. I've lived in probably 8 different apartment complexes in the past 10 years, and this is by far the most oddly laid out and least spacious floor plan I've ever lived in. We moved here sight unseen from a different state, and believe me, if I had seen it prior to move in, I would have definately had second thoughts based on space alone. The pool and workout room and everything are nice, and the maintenence and office staff seem very friendly, but I'm about to stir it up with them tomorrow over this security issue so we'll see how nice they are after that. Things do get fixed promptly, and the kitchens are very nice, but once again....a little cramped. Overall, if you have no problem with worrying about your valuables being stolen on a regular basis, it's not the worst place to live, but you should be aware that it's going to happen, and Neighborhood Watch is a joke.

Wow. I am amazed that you feel this way! I completely disagree! Anyone who has lived in Virginia Beach for any time knows that unfortunately there is crime EVERYWHERE! The whole city is horrible so you can not really blame Windsor Lakes for this happening when it happens everywhere and their staff can't work 24/7.

I unfortunately would have to agree. I lived at Windsor Lake for two years, and in those two years two of my vehicles were broken into. The first time they broke a window and stole a cd played and case of cd's, and the second time they damaged the lock so badly I had to replace the whole door on my car and stole some change and a cd player again. Thankfully I moved to a much better neighborhood!

I don't think that the cars being broken into is the apartments fault, that is going to happen just about anywhere. All you need for that to happen is a car and three or more kids who are bored and want to get into trouble. I'm sure it would be a lot less tempting to break into your car if you didn't have a gps sitting out... I always take mine out of the car.

(Original poster) Had ANOTHER car break-in last night- giving us a grand total of three in the past year.
Militaryrenter2007, the first GPS that was stolen wasn't "sitting out", but I'm glad that you think know so much about everything *rolls eyes*. It was in the compartment in the center console. This time, they were obviously going for the GPS, as the plastic stand is generally left in the car, but they broke the window for nothing. I don't think it's the apartment's fault that there is crime, but it is CERTAINLY their fault that they hired such a crappy security company. It's their job to ensure that we live somewhere where we can feel safe- and if that means coming down on security until they actually do their jobs, or hiring a company that will, then that is what should be done. Surely my $1200 a month can help pay for a guard that doesn't sit around with his thumb us his a**.
