I have not had any problems since moving in mid December. There was a squirrel problem but maintenance has been very helpful trying to get them out of the attic. The grounds are kept very nicely. They have people come to mow the grass once a week and they blow the grass off the sidewalks and all that jazz.
I have never felt unsafe while living here. I have never had any problems with people breaking into my vehicle or any vehicle around mine (If you leave valuables in your car where people can see, your going to get robbed). There is crime all over Hampton Roads and unless you make a large amount of money its pretty hard to avoid it. I think theres more crime on the side of the complex where the office is and the other part that is on the other side of the lake. I dropped my wallet in the parking lot one day and had gone out for a couple hours and when i came back it was still there with EVERYTHING in it. I think its more dangerous to live on the bottom floor because people look into the apartment to scope the electronics and whatever else you have.
At this point in my lease, I plan on renewing it at the end of this year.
