Don't do it

I came to Woodshire because of the reasonable prices, and ever since they have nickel & dimed me into paying more & more EVERY month! The management is rude, unavailable, act as if you are inconveniencing them anytime you have a question or need. The cockroaches are HUGE, and everywhere. My bathroom door was locked from the inside, when maintenance (FINALLY) came to let me in, they broke the frame so the door won't close all the way and have never come back to fix it. The utilities initially were about $42/month, have risen to almost $150- the management says the whole building's power usage is split evenly among tenants, but there is no visible meter to check the price, and when asked management rudely practically threw me out of the office. One night, they called a tow company and towed all cars from the parking lots that had expired inspection stickers or tags. Then were unavailable to calls, had no information regarding the tow company used so was all day trying to find my car to get it back. When confronted with this, management said "If it's on our property, we can do whatever we want". I am routinely woken up in the middle of the night by young kids who come in at 3,4 in the morning with their radios blaring, screaming & drunk in the parking lots. Insulation is so poor I can tell you every move my neighbors make, and can never get to sleep until my upstairs neighbors are gone because when they walk through their apt it sounds like a herd of elephants overhead. They are steadily raising the rents, and the only improvements that have been done are to the leasing office, which has been remodeled while the actual apartments remain old, outdated, and infested with roaches & fleas. I am currently trying to break my lease to get out of this hellhole, management basically told me they can't wait for me to leave, I am free to go, but will not get a dime of my deposit back (before they have even looked in my apartment to see if any damage has been done, which it hasn't) . Please heed my warning - DON'T DO IT!!! Moving in here has been a HUGE mistake, and constant headaches.

Dear Anonymous,
That management company is the problem. The one next tou you there Thalia Gardens is also managed by the same company AIMCO. We almost moved in there but the management kept playing around with the lease and wouldn't allow the previous tenents to break the lease, even after they told them they could. I told Thalia to go take a flying leap, theat was the same place where one of the Tenets shot up several people because of the games they were playing with the guys mother, a another fellow tenent. I wouldn't sdvocate using violence though, but that goes to show the extent of their greed. Runaway Bay is on the other side of Thalia Gardens. They used to be AIMCO managed, take a look at their reviews. Pre AIMCO, there is plenty of negative entries. Post, seems outside of the maintenance and repairs the new managers are doing, they are a complete 180. I like Jeff, he was the rep I worked with and he was very up front with me, and worked with me to get set up and everything. The two girls who worked there were awsome too, unfortunately they almost always saw me when I had to report stuff broken. But I did show up with cake, which they seemed to enjoy, for thier efforts over there. If you are military, go to legal, do your research about AIMCO too. I'm sure if you do those two things you will be able to get out of that lease. Runaway bay was about the same fes and you don't share your utilities there. They had an awsome special since the new management took over. We are in Cali now since I retired, but I just left there in January, sad to go but hard to get a job there or else I'd have stayed. Go there talk to Jeff, tell him you spoke to Tim, the guy whose wife makes cake, and tell him your story. I bet he will find you something without any hassles. They even have resident ducks and a turtle, you cant beat that at all.

ACTUALLY:
Woodshire and Runaway were both owned by AIMCO. They are now both owned by Harbor Group Management. Thalia Gardens has NEVER been owned by AIMCO.

All vehicles in the parking lot that are in voilation with city regs are given time to comply before they are removed from the property.
As for your "power usage" that is billed to YOU directly from Dominion VA power. It is possible that your utilities be divided because a lot of apartment complexes share water heaters or gas meters, again that is metered by someone else, not the management company.
Given the age of this property some noise from above should be expected - I mean really what can be done about it?
Bugs- well the area around the property is partially wooded and most complexes including this one do offer free pesticide services - but it is up to YOU to call and have this done.
A drive through the property shows that much more than the office has been updated since the new owners took possession.
And this is to the reply from organt - get your facts straight - the property Runaway Bay that you are so happy with - managed by Harborgroup - also manages Woodshire.
Honestly- yes there can be bugs - but that is drastically reduced with a clean apartment - occasional sprays and have maintenance seal your front door and patio door with weatherstripping if needed. The parking can be a pain on the weekends but there is two entrances to my building and you can buy a reserve spot if you want. The office is nice most of the time, and the few times I have seen maintenance they have been more than pleasant. The pool and fitness area are in need of an update and it looks like that might be done soon. I am getting ready to leave Woodshire and researching apartments in TX when I thought I would read the reviews here- not a bad place. Just my .02
