Loved it, but make sure you read the contract before moving out!

I absolutely loved living in this apartment complex and was very sad to move! I constantly got compliments from my friends because of how nice the apartment looked, felt safe whenever I took my dog for a walk (even in the middle of the night), and loved the overall community. This complex is close to everything - Ukrops, Trader Joe's, PetSmart, Target, the outlets, William and Mary, etc.! My maintenance requests were always handled promptly and courteously - although the office staff had a lot of turnover in the year that I lived there, everyone was nice and helpful. I felt very fortunate to have found this complex because I almost signed a lease at Steeplechase, where I heard numerous horror stories (such as a sewage tank bursting and no one in maintenance cleaning it up for several days and only when a tenant filed a complaint with the Office of Public Health!). This is a great place to live and worth the high price (which really isn't that high in comparison to other rental properties).
My one complaint about Monticello at Powhatan apartments had to do with the moving out procedures. I should have been more vigilant as the end of our lease approached - unlike most complexes which require a 30 day notice, this complex requires a 60 day notice - I was late, so I was told that I would need to pay a prorated rate on the rent. Also, when you move out, the apartment must be immaculate, essentially as clean as when you moved in or you will get charged! We ended up getting the majority of our deposit back, with only our final water bill subtracted from the total amount.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience there and would highly recommend it to other renters!
