I lived at Steeplechase for over three years and absolutely loved my first two years there. The property was well-managed, repairs were handled immediately and professionally, and all of the staff members were very kind.

However, in the past year things have taken a drastic turn for the worst. They have begun accepting tenants who are, quite frankly, extremely unpleasant (loud music at all hours, leaving trash outside instead of carrying to the dumpster etc, allowing pets to relieve themselves anywhere and everywhere...) Nothing was ever done despite numerous complaints.

On top of a rather unpleasant past several months, trying to move out of Steeplechase was an absolute NIGHTMARE! I e-mailed the property office no fewer than five times, called them three times, and stopped by the office twice. NONE of the staff would bother to acknowledge me or my inquiry to learn what the proper move-out procedures were. On the day I was moving out, I went to the office one last time and was told simply to lock the door and turn in my keys. I found this very odd, but as that was the only direction I ever received, I did as I was told. Four weeks later I had still not received my deposit return, and when I called to ask about this, the property manager was absolutely obnoxious, explaining that I'd done things incorrectly. The apartment was absolutely spotless when I left, but I was charged nearly half of my security deposit for my "incorrect" move-out. Upon calling repeatedly to attain more details about my deposit, I was ignored, hung up on, and finally chewed out royally by the office manager. Obviously the lovely property to which I moved in 2002 has fallen into a pathetic state. I would absolutely NOT recommend Steeplechase, especially for anyone who actually plans to recoup the security deposit! There are other, newer properties in the area that would be a MUCH wiser investment!
