Now I am out!

I wrote a previous review while still living at the Village of Woodshire. Now that I have moved out I can tell you that there are much better apartments on the other side of Williamsburg. VoW has become HUD housing with multiple families living on welfare. This wouldn't be a problem if they could be respectful of those who live around them. One family that lived in my building had so many people there, that they seemed to sleep in shifts. So someone was always loudly talking out front.

One man was always outside cleaning his car from a bucket in the parking lot (even after Penny, the manager, said no one should be.) Another guy regularly took apart his car and did major auto repairs in the same parking lot. The lease says that no repairs, even oil changes, are allowed on the property.

Just drive through and look at the vehicles parked there. Some have been vandalized. One of the worst was a beige van that had the windows broken out and painted with anarchist symbols. It was never fixed or towed, just left there. Cars that won't even run are allowed to take up parking spaces. One of the people in my bulding moved out in June 04 and his car was still there by Feb 05. Not that VoW towed it, someone bought it. Crime is also a problem which the local police acknowledged to me. They said they've noticed VoW falling back into a crime hot spot. I've personally witnessed a drunk drive into four parked cars and a couple have a physical fight below my balcony. You can't stay safe in dark hallways and barely lit parking lots.

The worst part was the noise. If you open your windows, instead of running the AC, you have to listen to pounding bass, either rap or Latino music coming rfom cars in the parking lot. I had 2 guys living below me who pounded their music and got violent when I asked them to turn it down. The cops came and arrrested one, who also had an outsanding warrent! Upstairs were about seven people in a two bedrrom apartment who liked to have parties and play loud European music. They were breaking the Williamsburg code about having too many people in the apartment and being unrelated but management didn't care.

The apartments are big but when you pay close attention you'll see they simply paint over problems and cracks quickly appear. They didn't even paint the whole apartment when we moved in, the just painted over the spackle. Our bathroom ceiling caved in and they wouldn't fix it. I called the state health inspector who was appalled. Brown liquid flowed into my bathroom when the people upstairs would flush their toilet. With seven people, this happened constantly. When I finally got it fixed, they never came back to paint over the spackle, and it was leaking again when we moved out, They never fix problems, they just patch them up.

The apartment buildings on Longhill Road are much nicer and safer. I live there now. It's a little more per month but I can sit outside on Friday nights and enjoy quiet. I can walk to my car in safety. Best of all, the maintenance people actually fix things and fast!! If you choose to move to the Village of Woodshire, all I can say is: you've been warned!
