I lived in Longview for about 1 1/2 years. I was my first apartment that I got after my divorce and I needed a place for cheap. Longview fit the bill perfectly.
I will not lie, the place does have roaches. The ones that were in my apartment were pretty small and I maybe saw one every other week or so. However, when maintenance would come in and spray I wouldn't see them for months at a time, they would inevitably come back, but it was nice to see that maintenance was at least making an attempt to correct the problem.
The maintenance team was extremely good and I never had to call more than once to have something fixed and it was usually fixed the same day.
The office staff seemed as though they were making a strong attempt to clean up the neighborhood as rules were strictly enforced. I had two neighbors evicted from my building alone for noise violations. They also placed locks on the main entrances to all the buildings.
Doing laundry was a pain because I had to go to another building as there wasn't a washer and dryer in mine, not to mention that they are coin operated. I would usually go to the laundramat around the corner once every other week instead.
Parking was a bit of a mixed bag, it was nice to have my own reserved spot, but having more than one guest could be a hassle as towing was strictly enforced and you have to go to the leasing office to get additional visitor passes. The additional visitor passes are free however, but visitor parking as also extremely limited.
The apartment was very large considering how low the rent was, I had a lot of closet and storage space. The master bedroom was huge and something I actually miss.
I did find out later that there are three registered sex offenders that live in Longview so beware.
Overall I would recommend Longview if you can stand a few bugs and you need a cheap place to stay. I had a lot of fun there and I believe that while it may not be perfect it has a lot of character.
