Pretty Good Place to live
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 4/29/2006
Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2006
I've lived at golden place for 3 years. 2 years in a basement one bedroom apartment, which was a really good rate for the area and pretty decent size. location is convenient, i walk to uvm, waterfront, and to downtown frequently. I wouldnt recommend the 1 bedroom apartments as they are all in the basement and we had some serious moisture and mildew problems and leaking in the kitchen after rainstorms. Appliances have always been great and with any problems we usually here back within a day. Heating is electric which can be a little expensive.
Ive spent my last year living in a two bedroom on the top floor, major improvement from the dreary basement living. We complained about the carpets that were very worn and the replaced them without question before moving in, and they also replaced all the kitchen linoleum. Stair noise coming into the living room area is a it of an issue in any of the apartments, all bathroom conversations can be heard in adjoining apartment bathrooms thru ceilings and floors, windows are a little leaky (id recommend the plastic film insulation in winter to save on heating costs)... floors can be a little creaky... they only recently began vacuuming the stairwells, but common areas are generally not in great condition... laundry rooms are messy and cost 1.50 both to wash and dry (none of the dryers in any of the buildings offer a decent drying time so i usually go off site or hang up the damp pieces in the bathroom). I had a tire randomly slashed in the parking lot once, and thre are occasionally issues with parking ( ithink the rule is one permit per bedroom) but in winter when there is a parking ban youre better off not to drive anywhere at night because all the spots will be occupied. Lots of quirks and a few down falls, but definitely one of the best deals in town. Another plus is that they are really good about making sure carpets are shamppooed and walls painted before you move in. If i wasnt graduating and moving for a job out of state i would continue living here and would recommend it to friends and family. Just dont live in the basement and be careful what you store in the basment as it might get moisture damage too.
also if youre unhapppy with anything dont be afraid to call and take matters into your own hands, the company that owns the property also has a construction business and oil business i think so it seems at times they forget to pass the word along... on occasion it took more than one call to solove our problem but they followed through eventually... the one down fall is i think the landlord that we deal with , usually when you call you get the secretary, but my boyfriend usually calls straight through to the owner peter and recently when we enquired about switching to a new cable and phone service that the city recently started he refused to look into it because he felt the city was price gauging adelphia... (even tho prior to this adelphia was a monopoly in the city and really they were ripping us off) this is sort of a political thing... burlington is borderline socialist the general community is very liberal and progressive and they thought they were doing a good thing to offer city residents another utility choice, however the landlord was not interested in letting them bring new wires and boxes to the property...
one more good thing, all the buildings had new roofs put on a year ago (04 or 05 i think)
1 bed started out at 625/ month but is now 675/month and 2 bedroom is 775/ month [well worth the 100 extra dollars]
