Where to start. I am writing this on behalf of my grandma, who has lived at this complex for 15 years. Thats right 15. So, I know a little history behind this place. When she moved in, things were pretty good. The manager, who per the rules has to remain nameless, was a decent person and things always got taken care of. Her husband died, I believe it was in 2004. Since then, the manager has done nothing but lie to the tenants, and force them into leases they had no knowledge of. Because of this, people have moved out in the middle of the night, breaking leases and all to get away. Drug addicts have filled up the complex next door, Tall Pines, and have begun to fill up Kona Kai. I do believe that the managers of the complexes have an agreement to if full send them to the other complex. I know full well that the manager is negligent in her responsibilities as a manger because my girlfriend and I run an apartment complex not more than 8 blocks from Kona Kai. Whenever the tenants voice an issue or concern, including but not limited to maintinence issues, the manager says, and I quote, "Thats your problem." The police are there for drug dealers and issues more than most of the tenants. There are many issues with my Grandma's apartment, but with the new owners and the manager as a team, nothing gets accomplished. I usually go take care of it for her to make the unit liveable. But there are more and more units going vacant each night and weekend, and they cant keep a maintinence crew for more than a couple days at a time. Sooner or later, the places will be condemned or burn to the ground, whichever comes first. I hope my grandma can get out of there before it happens. Additionally, I was there about an hour ago, and the grass is as tall as my 15 month old daughter. There are thistles and weeds in an over abundance, and the lawn is definitely not a good or safe place for kids to play. My grandma has a neighbor that smokes marijuana on a regular basis. You can smell it outside his apartment, with or without the door open. The manager evidently wants to keep as many of the units occupied as possible at any cost. There is also the floor plan of the smaller one bedrooms. This is a major joke. You walk in the door, and youre in the living room/dining room. Theres about enough room for a card table (squeezed in the corner) a couch, and maybe a small table. Moving along to the kitchen. The kitchen is not as wide as an aisle at a Fred Meyer store. If you want to have more than 1 person in the kitcen at a time, good luck. Proceed through the kitchen into the bedroom. A queen size bed and a dresser would fit ok with very little room left to spare. While in the bedroom, you can enter the bathroom. This entrance is the only entrance to the bathroom. The bathroom is seemingly the size of a phone booth. Any way you look at it, the places are run down and such poor repair, they should be bulldozed, and the owners are probably kicking themselves for purchasing this complex, while the previous owners are laughing all the way to the bank. Oh,forgot parking and garbage. Parking ok lately, but people still park in the wrong spots and dont care. On the back side of the complex, multiple cars get broken into, and usually on a regular basis. Garbage. Well, They used to have dumpsters in the front by the office, and in the back of the complex. My grandma doesnt exactly have the easiest time getting around, and now has to walk clear across the complex to dump her garbage. The manager said that this is to benefit everyone. I doubt that. Moral of the story: Run away! Run away fast! And I wouldnt recommend this place to a friend if I wanted to keep them as a friend!
